The Design Engineer for Battery Systems will perform a pivotal role in electrification projects within Williams Grand Prix Technologies. By employing methodologies and expertise from motorsport and Formula 1, WGPT presents a unique opportunity to work with ground-breaking technologies in a number of areas including Aerospace, Motorsport, Marine, Industrial and Off Highway.

The Design Engineer for Battery Systems will perform a pivotal role in electrification projects within Williams Grand Prix Technologies. By employing methodologies and expertise from Aerospace, motorsport and Formula 1, WGPT presents a unique opportunity to work alongside some of the UK’s top engineers across several different sectors.

This role will bring significant experience in the design of battery systems and their associated sub systems. Experience in a variety of markets and the technical solutions typically employed in those industries will be beneficial although a keen mind for problem solving is key to the role.

What You’ll Do

  • Design and develop battery systems from cell level to full vehicle integration
  • Engineer lightweight, cost-effective, HV-safe structures and assemblies
  • Run structural and functional analyses to validate performance
  • Collaborate closely with suppliers and manufacturing partners
  • Ensure compliance with REG.100, UN38.3, and industry standards
  • Represent WGPT in customer and technical reviews

What You’ll Bring

  • Degree in Mechanical, Automotive, or related Engineering
  • Proven experience designing High-Voltage battery systems (concept → production)
  • Knowledge of cell packaging, electrical integration, HV safety
  • Background in motorsport, aerospace, or other high-performance sectors
  • A collaborative, problem-solving mindset and ability to thrive in a fast-moving, hands-on environment
  • Familiarity with battery module design concepts and industry safety/certification standards.
  • Advanced CAD capability – Siemens NX preferred.
