SUMMARY OF THE POSITION:
The Case Manager Supervisor position is part of the leadership team of the Safe Haven department at Pine Street Inn and is responsible for overseeing the case management operations of the 3 Safe Haven programs using a Housing First/Safe Haven Stabilization model. The incumbent is responsible for providing administrative and clinical supervision to staff, supporting staff so that they can create and maintain a respectful atmosphere that empowers very chronic, mentally ill participants to reach their highest level of independent functioning, achieve their highest level of self-sufficiency, obtain permanent housing and connect to community resources.
The incumbent is responsible for program content including the implementation of effective best practices (Motivational Interviewing, Comprehensive Case Management, Harm Reduction, and Trauma Informed Care) and ensures the provision of high-quality case management supports on a 24/7 basis. This will involve hiring, evaluation, training, and support of supervisees; ensuring compliance with DMH licensing and legal requirements; and communicating key objectives to staff and ensuring compliance with the same. The incumbent will be a great team player, self-motivated, with solid communication skills, capable of implementing new policies, procedures, and plans. This position requires a great deal of tact, diplomacy, and creative problem-solving in order to maintain our positive working relationship with other departments and teams.
Requirements
EDUCATION/TRAINING:
REQUIRED:
- BA/BS in psychology or related field
- Currently certified in or have the ability to achieve CPR and First Aid certification.
PREFERRED:
- Master’s Degree in social work, counseling, psychology, or mental health and a minimum of one (1) year of supervised substance abuse experience
- Bilingual, with an emphasis in English and Spanish
KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE:
REQUIRED:
- A minimum of two (2) years of experience supervising others in a human services setting
- A minimum of two (2) years working with a homeless population presenting with substance use, mental health issues, and a demonstrated awareness of community resources and referral agencies.
- Familiarity with the concepts of psychosocial rehabilitation and consumer empowerment
- Experience in best practices such as: Motivational Interviewing and Trauma-Informed Care
- Knowledge of the issues related to homelessness, particularly around housing, substance abuse, mental illness, and economic factors as precipitants to homelessness
- Strong interpersonal and client interviewing skills
PREFERRED:
- Previous experience working with a Housing First philosophy
- Previous experience working with chronically homeless individuals with tri-morbidities (mental illness, substance abuse, medically compromised)
- Familiarity with the Metropolitan Boston public and private mental health system
- Extensive experience with case management, issues of substance abuse, and mental health issues, knowledge and experience using evidenced-based practices such as Motivational Interviewing and Trauma-Informed Care, and access to available services for homeless men
- Experience utilizing electronic health record documentation systems
