K-8 Media Teacher (Shared Time position)

Shared Time Teacher Salary Schedule

The Media Teacher oversees the primary functions of the school media center including student supervision and the circulation, organization, and maintenance of the technology materials. The Media Teacher supports students and staff in the use of digital media. The Media Teacher develops appropriate programs for students utilizing resources; and instructs students and others on the proper use of the computer and technology resources.

Under the direction of the media teacher, the media course provides the learning community with the necessary tools to become lifelong learners and contributors to society by promoting and supporting information literacy. Students will be able to effectively seek information, deepen their love for print and digital resources, and foster technology skills. The library media center curriculum facilitates student self discovery and self direction using and understanding different types of information resources. It consists of four major literacies: information, research, reading, and technological/digital.The course can address any of the four strands: library, research, literature, and digital citizenship.

QUALIFICATIONS

Valid Michigan teaching certificate (Elementary), Educational Technology (NP) preferred

Experience working with students at the elementary and middle school level

Ability to design and implement effective programs for diverse learners

Excellent observation and analytical skills

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the supervision of the Shared Time Supervisor, the Media Teacher:

Coordinates with administrators and other teaching staff members to assist in the selection of instructional materials; keeps students and teaching staff informed regarding new acquisitions for use in the classroom.

Serves as a ready resource to students to provide research and technology assistance.

Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research.

Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping.

Encourages parental involvement in students\’ education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.

Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.

Develops and arranges educationaldisplays.

Assists with the preparation and administration of the media budget.

Supporting teachers with materials for special projects in the classroom.

PLANNING AND PREPARATION

Demonstrates knowledge of current trends in media practice and information media

Demonstrates knowledge of the school\’s program and student information needs within that program

Establishes goals for the media program appropriate to the setting and the students served

Demonstrates knowledge of resources, both within and beyond the school and district, and access to such

Plans the media program, integrated with the overall school program

Develops a plan to evaluate the media program
