We are seeking an enthusiastic committed professional to join us as a Primary Teaching Assistant in a Specialist SEND School in Wakefield. The school\’s education programme is designed to provide pupils with the specialised support they need, going beyond what mainstream schools can offer.
The school is accessed by Primary aged children with profound physical and medical needs, severe learning difficulties and ASC. This is a school where the team of staff work together to provide great experiences and accessible education for each individual student with care and consideration embedded in everything they do. Through encouragement, a wide range of learning opportunities and an enthusiastic staff, they work in partnership with parents to ensure each child will fulfil their potential.
Outdoor learning is a feature of the curriculum. The school is fortunate to have extensive grounds, which have been developed over the years. Play/leisure areas have been planned according to the needs of the pupils and to enable them to develop both physically, socially and cognitively. In addition, pupils benefit from a programme of Forest School learning both on and off-site.
This school works closely with health professionals to deliver physiotherapy, speech and language therapy, occupational/sensory integration therapy and music therapy. There are two full time nurses on site and various medical professionals hold clinics at the school. In addition, the school has the support of teachers for the hearing and visually impaired, and for pupils with MSI needs, who visit pupils on a regular basis.
You will be working with children across the school to cover in a variety of classes on a 1:1 and whole class basis. This role would suit a person who has previously worked in a care background, a mainstream setting or SEND setting looking for flexibility in their next role.
The successful candidate will:
- Support the Class Teacher in delivering a range of subjects and learning to support student\’s progression
- Work as part of the team to deliver lessons, support positive behaviour, and to make students feel safe so that they can learn and achieve
- Follow whole school systems for teaching and learning. The school will support you with a full induction, they are a very supportive team
- Provide personal care to student\’s where needed
- Work both indoors and outdoors to support children in a variety of settings
Our ideal candidate will have:
- A committed and passionate view of students with SEND
- Experience minimum of working in a SEND environment or similar unit/provision
- A relevant care qualification or CACHE qualification
