What will I be doing?

As a shop operative, you will be in charge of the daily running of our re-use shop, based at Pinbrook Road HWRC, liaising with the re-use hub manager to ensure the shop is fully stocked and that everything is properly stored or made ready for sale.

This will involve you:

  • Merchandising stock, organising, preparing, pricing, and presenting donations for sale to increase sales and ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Managing stock and communicating to the re-use hub manager about stock needs for the shop.
  • Operating the cash register, counting/reconciling cash and credit card receipts, processing returns and refunds.
  • Ensuring goods are sold at appropriate values and rejected items are disposed of properly.
  • Arranging collections and deliveries efficiently and cost-effectively.
  • Maintaining the security of the shop premises, stock, and cash.

You\’ll be expected to promote the values of the shop and the charitable nature of the re-use scheme in Pinbrook, while providing excellent customer service to encourage repeat business and ensure the smooth and profitable running of the shop.

What are the requirements?

  • You will be passionate about the environment and the re-use project, with prior retail experience and enthusiasm for providing excellent customer service.
  • Knowledge of recycling and upcycling is preferred, or willingness to develop it, along with understanding of stock management, merchandising, and handling financial aspects of retail.
  • A flexible attitude to shift work and weekend hours is required.
  • Confidence to work alone initially in the shop until volunteers are recruited.
  • Excellent teamwork skills to work closely with site staff at HWRCs.
