Are you an experienced Public Rights of Way Ranger with a passion for the great outdoors and a proven track record of practical work on access and rights of way networks as part of countryside and urban greenspace management?
Sheffield boasts a wealth of treasured greenspaces across diverse landscapes, including upland moorland, ancient woodlands, parks, grasslands, and wetlands. Increasingly known as The Outdoor City, Sheffield is one of the greenest cities in the country, with 4,130 hectares of green space and around 900 miles of public rights of way.
Sheffield’s rights of way network include a mix of rural, woodland, open space, moorland, river corridors, urban fringe, and some urban areas. Most are signposted with their recorded status from the roadside.
The communities of Sheffield are equally diverse. Maintaining the value of the city’s public rights of way network—and supporting the wide range of people who live nearby in its active, positive use and care—is key.
We are seeking an enthusiastic and dynamic Public Rights of Way Ranger.
This post is within the Ranger Service, as part of a small team of dedicated Public Rights of Way Rangers. You will deliver practical management of the city’s public footpaths, bridleways, restricted byways, and byways open to all traffic, as well as large areas of access land.
Day to day, this role involves working outdoors in all weathers, developing and delivering practical rights of way improvements and maintenance, conducting surveys, and carrying out health and safety tasks.
You should be innovative, flexible, and self-motivated, with a true passion and enthusiasm for access, people, and the great outdoors.

If you are appointed to this role, your starting salary will be at the bottom of the grade. If you provide payslip evidence that your basic pay is greater than the bottom of the grade, we will consider starting you at the point of minimum advantage within the grade.
Full-time employees work 37 hours for 52 weeks of the year and we offer a generous holiday entitlement. We are open to discussions about a wide range of flexible working opportunities which benefit you and the Council, including reduced hour contracts, working part time or as a job share.
