The Team Our team delivers significant value to RPC’s broader legal practice by acting as an internal client, providing referral instructions to panel solicitors and supporting the firm’s insurance business and future strategy. Role Overview As a Technical Claims Handler you will manage a technical caseload of professional indemnity claims, ensuring a first‑class claims experience for policyholders and accurate reporting to insurers. You will work with the Head of Claims to handle claims from first notification of loss to resolution under delegated authority, and you will conduct commercial analysis and strategic resolution of matters. The Role You will be responsible for a varied range of professional indemnity claims, managing investigations, providing expert guidance to clients and insurers, negotiating settlements, and maintaining accurate data in the case management system. Responsibilities Run a full caseload of professional indemnity claims, demonstrating a deep understanding of delegated authority principles and reporting requirements, while making strategic decisions in insurers’ best interests. Support managers with supervision, training needs identification, and delivery of deskside and group training to team members. Build and maintain effective working relationships with all customers and suppliers to ensure defined service levels are met and exceeded, consistently delivering excellent customer service. Understand and adhere to service level agreements and key performance indicators, ensuring compliance across the team. Apply insurers’ reserving policies to handle claims fairly and control costs, supported by appropriate approved external suppliers. Investigate and identify insured exposure to claims, gather and assess relevant information on liability and quantum, and guide insureds on complaints and claims actions, including approving settlement offers. Negotiate settlement of claims within the delegated authority. Investigate and report on policy cover, liability, and response to insurers. Actively manage panel solicitors as agents for insurers, reporting where claims fall outside delegated authority.
