The Role
As a Mechanical Piping Design Engineer, you will be an integral part of our Mechanical Engineering team, working within a multidisciplinary environment alongside our wider EPCM team, including EC&I, Civil & Structural, Process, and Construction Management. You’ll be involved in a variety of UK-based projects across the onshore process industries, including chemical, petrochemical, pharmaceutical, manufacturing, oil & gas, and food & beverage.
This role is primarily office-based, with occasional site visits as required. You’ll collaborate closely with clients and internal stakeholders to ensure the successful delivery of engineering solutions.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Developing and reviewing mechanical and piping drawings in line with relevant standards.
- Providing design support during construction phases when needed.
- Collaborating with engineers and project teams to implement procedures and share technical insights.
- Evaluating client design proposals, specifications, and documentation for feasibility and compliance.
- Specifying system components and recommending modifications to meet performance criteria.
- Leading client design reviews and incorporating feedback into design development.
- Acting as a technical point of contact for clients, fostering strong working relationships.
- Coordinating with other engineering disciplines to ensure seamless project integration.
- Preparing scopes of work and technical documentation for procurement and installation.
- Assisting with mechanical piping resource planning alongside the Mechanical Section Head.
- Supporting business development by contributing to cost estimates and project proposals.
Experience Required
- A degree in Mechanical Engineering (preferably from a UK university).
- Experience in one or more of the following sectors: petrochemical, chemical, oil & gas, pharmaceutical, food & beverage.
- Chartered Engineer status (desirable but not essential).
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Proficiency in Autodesk software, ideally Plant 3D.
- Experience in a mechanical design engineering role.
- Willingness to attend client sites for meetings, surveys, and reviews.
