Our Waterside Specialists help maintain the sustainability of the waterways by providing higher levels of skills through their volunteering.
Our community roots programme in Sefton and Liverpool is running a number of Stand Up Paddleboard, kayaking, and canoeing events for local groups, and you would be helping the lead Instructor with logistics, safety cover, and looking after participants.
You need to be a confident paddler (in kayak/canoe or SUP) and familiar with paddling safety.
There may be opportunities for you to gain Paddle UK qualifications if needed.

Volunteering with the Trust takes many forms and welcomes people with a wide range of skills, from practical to surveying, indoors and outdoors. These skills may include working alongside existing specialists within the Trust or bringing skills that we currently lack. We have a variety of skilled activities you could engage in.
What you will be doing
- Supporting reservoir inspections
- Towpath surveys
- Specialist heritage or environmental surveys and assessments
- Supporting major construction works (or stoppages)
- Carrying out CAATS (internal qualifications) assessments
- Doing Visitor Risk Assessments
- Maintaining specific pieces of equipment at our museums and attractions
- Safety and service inspections

This role is suited for individuals with specialist skills in various professional disciplines. While we support learning within the Trust, we also welcome those who come with existing experience and skills they are willing to share.
