Responsibilities

  • Communication and collaboration: Be a powerful voice promoting excellent and effective patient care, participate in decision-making relating to women-centred care, drive transformation and change when you see an opportunity, and act as an advocate for women and those accessing our services.
  • Be a great listener, engage with feedback, ensure confidentiality in everything you do, learn from every new experience, and adapt to new styles of working.
  • Clinical Care: Be an advocate for women and those accessing our services, for colleagues who deliver excellent care and who deserve recognition, and for the Trust while working within guidelines, policies, procedures, and ethical and legal frameworks.
  • Be effective in how you manage and prioritise your time, ensuring resources are used efficiently across the team, continuously assessing how we deliver care, and developing your skills in priority areas.
  • Personal and Professional Conduct: Be an inspiration on the ward and within the wider multidisciplinary team. Be a role model for junior staff and students. Support your personal development, set short- and long-term goals, and encourage others to develop while working collaboratively at all levels. Follow Health and Safety legislation and ensure safe administration and storage of drugs, incident reporting, infection control, safeguarding, and safekeeping of patient property.
  • Research and Education: Take part in clinical audits and trials to improve patient care, share evidence-based practices, participate in evaluating education programmes, mentor both qualified and unqualified staff (including student midwives), help develop leadership and supervision skills, and complete documentation when acting as a mentor or preceptor for Return to Practice midwives.

Qualifications

  • Be a midwife with recent intrapartum experience in labour suite, an AMU, or home birth environment.
  • Show continued professional development and clinical experience as an active member of the midwifery team.
