The Prime Minister’s Office enables the Prime Minster to deliver the Government’s overall priorities and to communicate the Government’s policies to Parliament, the public and international audiences. From the Policy Unit, Press Office, Switchboard and Custodians, to the Events & Visits team and the Private Office support; the diverse Downing Street team draws on varied expertise from across the Civil Service and beyond. The teams come together to deliver excellent service to the Prime Minister while also making No10 a great place to work.
The Front of House team, part of the wider Events and Visits team, provides professional, service-focused support to the Prime Minister, as well as for events and meetings held at No.10. The team also manages a range of daily operational tasks to ensure the smooth and efficient running of the House.
This role involves shift work, for which a shift allowance is provided. Operations run across three rotating 8-hour shifts between 08:00 and 20:00, Monday to Friday. Shifts are scheduled to rotate in weekly blocks.
Regular paid overtime and flexibility with shift patterns may be required to meet business needs. Additionally, we operate a weekend/bank holiday on-call rota to ensure year-round front-of-house service. Each team member is scheduled for on-call weekend duty approximately once every 4–6 weeks, with bank holiday coverage shared across the team.
This role involves domestic and international travel to support coordination and logistics for official trips, including the transportation and tracking of luggage. The team manages over ten trips annually, with responsibilities shared on a rotating basis. A valid passport is essential for this role.
Responsibilities
- Providing support for the Prime Minister both in No.10 and the House of Commons.
- Logistical support, in collaboration with other teams within the House, in particular: The Prime Minister’s Private Office, Events and Visits, Facilities Management, Custodians and Security.
- Providing coordination and logistical support on visits and overseas trips. Responsible for the transportation and organisation of delegation luggage. Working closely with the Travel and Logistics managers.
- Greeting, escorting, and providing high quality tours to guests.
- Providing refreshments for PM and senior-level meetings.
- Providing support to the Events team for Leader inward visits.
- Weekly setting up and hosting of Cabinet.
- Handling of the PM Box, collection of visas, and hand-delivering ministerial messages around Whitehall.
- The responsibilities of this role are ad-hoc.
Essential skills & experience
- A can-do attitude and willingness to get involved with tasks no matter how big or small.
- Good organisation, prioritisation and problem-solving skills.
- Experience in a hospitality or customer-facing setting preferred.
- Flexibility required for overseas travel and assisting the Events team with internal events at No10, in line with the established rota system associated with this role.
- A full and valid passport is required for this role.
- This role requires the successful candidate to be able to travel both national and international trips.
- Previous experience in a logistical or practical role desired, but not essential.
Please note that this role can be physically demanding; manual lifting is required in some tasks and may involve handling heavy items. Appropriate training will be provided to ensure safety.
