TITLE: Security Officer
CATEGORY: Contracted Position
REPORTS TO: Chief of Police
Job Summary
To assist in the enforcement and monitoring of district security to ensure a safe and secure school environment.
Qualifications
- Possesses a high school diploma or equivalent
- Assures compliance with Employment Eligibility through Criminal History Records, Pre-Employment Drug Testing and Physical Examination/TB Test Standard
- Possesses Security Guard certification, preferred
- Possesses 3-5 years of security related experience, preferably involving contact with juveniles, preferred
- Possesses the ability to be courteous to students, staff, and the general public
- Possesses the ability to maintain records and proper reports; technology skills will include use of email to communicate, operation of security panels and visitor identification systems
- Possesses ability to maintain high level of confidentiality
- Possesses strong communication skills, both verbal and written
- Possesses knowledge of and ability to implement non-violent conflict resolution
- Possesses the ability to work a flexible schedule
Licenses And Other Requirements
- Possesses appropriate security training
- Possesses valid First Aid certificate, CPR, and AED card issued by an authorizing agency
- Possesses a valid driver’s license/pass MVR annually
Primary Job Functions
The position holder must be able to perform the essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation. It is the responsibility of the employee to inform the District of any and all reasonable accommodations that will be required.
- Monitors and controls students on school grounds and during other non-classroom activities under the supervision of the Chief of Police; assures students possess appropriate permits or permission when leaving campus; observes and questions unauthorized persons on campus
- Monitors visitors on campus grounds and seeking admittance to buildings
- Monitors elementary buildings on a daily basis when assigned
- Checks students for proper hall pass, identification cards, and proper attire; reports violations to the appropriate building administrator, provides escort as requested by administrator
- Patrols assigned locations on school grounds (inside and outside), including doors, windows, gates and other entrance and exit assesses to buildings and grounds; conducts foot and/or vehicular patrols as assigned to prevent any disturbance, disruption, unauthorized visitors; patrols shall include all buildings and grounds to assure property is secure and safe from fire, theft, vandalism and other unlawful acts
- Provides a safe environment for the students, faculty staff, visitors on school property
- Monitors and enforces driving and parking rules and regulations, traffic flow, visitors and deliveries
- Controls traffic when school buses are transporting, loading and unloading students
- Conducts morning traffic duty at the high school campus, as assigned
- Responds to calls from administrators and provides backup assistance to security personnel as needed; contacts district or local law enforcement officials to report burglaries and other unlawful activities; detains suspects as appropriate; attends hearings, when necessary; assists with in-school functions and/or problem areas district-wide when required
- Responds to emergency situations and takes appropriate action in accordance with established guidelines
- Implements all district and building safety/security procedures and processes
- Maintains regular and timely attendance
Secondary Job Functions
- Communicates with personnel, campus administrators, students, parents and others regarding security-related concerns
- Administers emergency first aid and CPR and utilizes defibrillators as necessary; arranges for emergency medical services as needed
- Maintains a variety of records related to field activities and prepares incident reports in accordance with established guidelines
- Drives a patrol vehicle and operates a two-way radio; observes safe and defensive driving practices
- Provides information, directions and other assistance to visitors as needed
- Assists school administrators with crowd control during times of assemblies and rallies
- Willing to provide security at evening/weekend events
- Attends training and in-service as assigned
- Performs related duties as assigned
