GB Railfreight is currently recruiting 10 Rail Operators to join our growing team at London Gateway — one of the UK’s most advanced and rapidly expanding logistics hubs. Operated by DP World, London Gateway has seen significant ongoing investment, transforming it into a state-of-the-art deep-sea port and rail terminal. Working a shift-based roster across a nominal 37 hours per week, successful candidates will receive a basic salary of £39,873 per annum upon becoming competent, along with excellent staff benefits.

Responsibilities
The successful candidates will perform train preparation on, marshal and dispatch trains in a safe, punctual and efficient manner in accordance with GBRf and Railway rules and regulations. Liaising with GBRf Train Managers (Drivers), signallers and contractor representatives you will ensure customer requirements are met, and trains are prepared efficiently, safely and on time.
To fulfil your duties a flexible approach to work is required. Our Rail Operators are required to book on at unsociable and often sporadic times, working year-round in all weather conditions.
Qualifications
Full Rail Operator Training will be provided for this role by one of our industry leading Trainers.
- Previous operational/Ground staff/shunting experience within the Freight industry would be desirable.
- Experience in a safety critical role would be desirable.
- Experience gained in a Customer facing environment would be advantageous.
- Able to multi-task and make quick decisions for short notice changes to train plans.
- Ability to work independently and on your own initiative.
- Excellent and clear communication skills to relay important safety messages to your colleagues.
- Safety conscious and ability to remain calm in an event of an emergency situation.
- A clean full manual UK driving licence is essential.
