Tasks include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Provide expert advice and assistance to company management to ensure compliance with environmental legislation and sustainability in accordance with Air Liquide Group requirements and relevant UK statutory provisions.
  • Establish a suitable carbon footprint methodology applicable for Air Liquide UK operations. Review and propose methods to reduce the company carbon footprint.
  • Conduct internal environmental audits to comply with ISO14001.
  • Participate in external ISO14001 audits together with the Chief Industrial Auditor.
  • Ensure reports are submitted correctly in compliance with various legal requirements such as Extended Producer Responsibility, Energy Intensive Industry Exemption Scheme, Climate Change Agreement, F‑Gas Annual Activity Reporting, Streamlined Energy Carbon Reporting (SECR).
  • Ensure quarterly environmental data is submitted by relevant sites and review information for any errors/omissions.
  • Participate in reviews of the various relevant suppliers (Electricity, Gas, Water, Waste Management). Ensure any issues with these suppliers are escalated to Procurement and/or Operations as appropriate and in a timely manner.
  • Assist with special projects that impact the Environmental Management System (e.g. opening new sites, decommissioning plants, compliant disposal of difficult waste streams etc.).
  • Review environmental events reported by sites. As necessary provide support for the root cause analysis investigations on any serious environmental events.
  • Assist in any meetings/discussions with the authorities that require expertise in environmental matters.
  • Participate in the UK Industrial Gases Industry Environmental Technical Sub‑committee on behalf of Air Liquide UK.
  • To support the Compliance Manager in implementation of IMS and compliance with ISO Management Systems (ISO 14001, ISO 9001, ISO 22000).
  • Familiar with Environmental Legislation.

Essential skills/behaviours:

  • Self‑motivated and capable of working on own initiative.
  • Willing to travel to all UK sites (full current driving licence required).
  • Capable communicator.
  • Organised and systematic mindset.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Proficient in Project Management.
  • Proficient in G‑suite and managing large data sets.
  • Ability to complete tasks in a timely manner.

Qualifications And Experience:

  • Degree in environmental science, energy management or an associated discipline.
  • Presentation, leadership and motivational skills.
  • Technically qualified professional (environmental or physical sciences or similar) with a can‑do attitude and people skills to help generate a culture of continuous improvement in environment and sustainability.
  • A good understanding of current UK and EU environmental legislation and management systems.
  • 2–3 years industrial experience – preferably in gas or chemicals industry.
  • IEMA member (Associate or Practitioner level) and/or NEBOSH Environmental Management Certificate preferable. Training and support can be arranged for the right candidate.
  • Familiarity with Google Workspace would be an advantage.
  • Experience in Occupational Health and Safety positions would be an advantage.
