About The Post

We are seeking a highly motivated person to join our fast-paced and high-performing Grass cutting team within Neighbourhood Services, performing a vital function as a Driver.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake operational duties outdoors in all weathers which will involve a range of physically and mentally demanding tasks such as grass cutting, leaf collection, hedge cutting and other grounds maintenance functions as required.
  • Be polite, friendly, and approachable ensuring compliance with BMBC customer care policies.
  • Drive a council vehicle with and without a trailer.
  • Operate a ride‑on mower along with powered, mechanical and hand tools to complete varied workloads.
  • Compliance to relevant legislative and health and safety requirements.
  • Work to agreed schedules and workloads to ensure service priorities are met.
  • Support partner services and departments to assist with delivering different social and cultural events where necessary.
  • Work to support the service as requested by management.

The role will involve working Monday to Friday from 06:30 to 14:30 and Friday 06:30 to 14:00.

The role will primarily be based at our Smithies Lane Depot, however this could be subject to change depending on service requirements.

You will report directly to a Team Leader and will be expected to carry out allocated work in accordance with the respective job profile to a high standard of safety and quality.

You will have experience of working in all weather conditions and will be able to undertake duties, often under pressure to meet targets and deadlines while also always remaining effective and efficient.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Valid UK driving licence with Category B entitlement.
  • Ability to speak English to an appropriate standard.
  • Willingness to comply with the Drug & Alcohol Testing Procedure as a safety critical role.
  • Prepared to start work with all necessary legal documents such as a valid visa, relevant to the type of work you will be undertaking. (Note: the organisation does not possess a Home Office license and does not provide sponsorship.)
  • Understanding that Pensions Regulations may affect pension entitlements if receiving a pension upon commencing employment.
