Walgreens offers an “earn while you learn” Pharmacy Technician Training Program recognized by ASHP & Department of Labor. This apprenticeship provides an entry point to a health care career by guiding you toward becoming a Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) Certified Pharmacy Technician and maintaining a high level of skill in the pharmacy care industry. Responsibilities
- In accordance with state and federal regulations, assist the pharmacist, under direct supervision, in the practice of pharmacy; support other Pharmacy Department duties per Company policies and procedures.
- Use pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions. If PTCB certified, assist with and coach technicians in operating pharmacy systems and cashiers in operating cash registers.
- Model and deliver a distinctive and delightful customer experience.
- Customer Experience
- Engage customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services. Resolve customer issues and answer questions to ensure a positive experience.
- Model and share customer service best practices with all team members to deliver a distinctive customer experience, including interpersonal habits and Walgreens service traits.
- Develop strong relationships with valued customers.
- Operations
- Under the supervision of the pharmacist, assist in the practice of pharmacy in alignment with policy and compliance standards. Review and adhere to the Walgreens Pharmacy Code of Conduct.
- Perform duties as assigned by Pharmacy Manager, Staff Pharmacist, and Store Manager, including entering patient and drug information, ensuring accuracy, filling prescriptions, checking for interactions, and assisting with scheduling and workflow.
- Report prescription errors to the pharmacist on duty and follow Company policies on pharmacy errors and the Quality Improvement Program.
- Adhere to Good Faith Dispensing policies during dispensing activities.
- Register and handle related sales at the assigned cash register, assist customers in locating products, and handle OTC transactions when appropriate.
- Handle telephone calls that do not require the pharmacist’s direct attention, including calls to physicians.
- Process (correct and resubmit) manual claims for third-party prescription services and perform other clerical duties as assigned.
- Assist with inventory management—ordering, unpacking, checking, storing shipments, and safeguarding assets; file claims for overages, shortages, order errors, or damaged Rx goods.
- May assist pharmacists in administering clinical services, including specimen collection and labeling, and coordinating clinical services with Walgreens healthcare clinics and external providers.
- Support relationships with the local medical community through outreach and provider detailing to physicians, nurses, and health groups.
- Support department upkeep—ensuring stock, cleanliness, and orderly appearance of the Pharmacy Department.
- Comply with all company policies and maintain respectful coworker relationships; complete special assignments as needed.
- Training & Personal Development
- Earn and maintain PTCB certification through the designated training program and/or state certification; certification may be a condition of promotion to senior technician.
- Attend training requested by the Manager and pursue continuing education to stay current in healthcare and pharmacy knowledge.
Basic Qualifications
- Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English (except in Puerto Rico).
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prefer six months of experience in a retail environment.
- Prefer prior work experience with Walgreens.
- Prefer good math skills for accurate prescription filling (counting, measuring, weighing).
- Prefer good computer skills.
- Prefer knowledge of store inventory control.
- Prefer PTCB certification.
