Job description: Job Title: On Street Operative (E-Cargo Rider) Location: London, SW2 5DZ Contract Type: Fixed Term, 12 months Working Hours: 16 hours per week, Saturday and Sunday 8.30am to 5pm Salary: £27,352 FTE per annum + excellent benefits London Cycle Hire, or Santander Cycles, is the largest cycle hire scheme in the UK and regularly records over 1 million hires a month. The Scheme is available 24/7, 365 days a year. We operate more than 12,300 bikes, 500 eBikes (additional 1400 in 2024) and over 800 bike docking stations across London. We help Londoners get around quickly and easily in the most environmentally friendly way possible. The scheme recently expanded to Southwest London so now you can saddle up anywhere from Shepherds Bush to Canary Wharf and Wandsworth Town to Camden Town. As the On Street Operative your key responsibility will be swapping batteries and triaging bikes to support our bike fleet and ensure our customers get where they want to go. You will be travelling around London using an E-Cargo bike. All eCargo Bike training will be provided and if successful will receive a professional qualification in eCargo Bike riding. You will be the public face of Serco’s London Cycle Hire team in the community, representing the business in a very positive way and interacting with members of the public in a friendly and approachable manner Other responsibilities where required include: Supporting Cycle Hire Hubs, when necessary, across the scheme during morning & evening peaks Transporting eBike batteries using eCargo Bikes across the city Completing mobile triage of Cycle Hire fleet across the scheme Providing assistance to the workshop on an adhoc basis to support workshop operations You will be a confident cyclist who is physically capable to keep up with demand on-street and work in a target pressured environment. You won’t be doing this alone either. Our team is made up of professional, friendly, and supportive teammates, including managers who began their careers with Serco as On Street and Redistribution Operatives who now hold Team Leader, Operations Manager and Contract Manager titles. What do I need to do the role? This is a role that is vital to the success of the Cycle Hire Scheme, and we are looking for candidates that take great pride in their work and are committed to being the best ambassadors for the Cycle Hire Service. Our On Street Operatives directly contribute to making London a greener place to live and visit and are responsible for making sure our bikes are safe for all to use, so it is important that you are able to take that responsibility seriously and are a considerate and courteous operative. We are dedicated to the ongoing development and career progression of our On Street Operatives, with outstanding training opportunities made available to you, along with the chance to undertake additional qualifications. These include, but are not limited to, Health & Safety courses, Team Leader and Management training and a supportive management team who will provide guidance and advice to ensure you achieve all that you want to with Serco. Previous experience of working within the Micromobilty sector is not essential as we will provide any additional training you may need. Please note, this position is subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
