Overview We are looking for a compassionate and committed 1:1 Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to join a primary school and provide tailored support to a child with additional learning needs. The ideal candidate will have a genuine passion for helping children overcome challenges and achieve their full potential in a caring and inclusive environment. This role requires patience, creativity, and the ability to adapt strategies to suit the individual needs of the child. Duties Provide dedicated 1:1 support to a primary-aged child, ensuring they can access the curriculum and engage in classroom activities. Assist in delivering personalised learning activities designed to meet the child's unique needs and learning targets. Encourage the child's social and emotional development, helping them build confidence and self-esteem. Work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to implement individual learning plans (ILPs) effectively. Support the child in developing essential skills such as literacy, numeracy, and communication through engaging activities. Manage challenging behaviours calmly and positively, promoting a supportive and respectful classroom environment. Collaborate with parents, carers, and school staff to ensure the child's progress and well-being are prioritised. Maintain accurate records of the child's achievements, challenges, and any interventions used.Skills Previous experience working with children in a school or educational setting, particularly on a 1:1 basis. A good understanding of additional learning needs such as autism, ADHD, speech and language difficulties, or behavioural challenges. Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build positive relationships with the child and the wider school community. Patience, empathy, and adaptability to respond to the child's changing needs and circumstances. Creativity in designing and delivering engaging learning activities that support the child's development. Familiarity with behaviour management strategies and an understanding of safeguarding policies.Examples of Support Assisting a child with speech and language delays by using visual aids and communication tools to enhance understanding. Supporting a student with ADHD in maintaining focus during lessons by incorporating movement breaks and structured routines. Helping a child with social challenges to engage in group activities and develop positive peer relationships.
