Here at Human Appeal UK, we have an exciting opportunity for a HR Officer to join our team based in Cheadle. The role requires you to be in the office full-time from Monday to Friday. You will join us on a full-time basis for an initial 1-year term. In return, you will receive a salary of £24,225 to £32,775 per annum.

Human Appeal is a faith-based charity that aims to abolish poverty by providing humanitarian aid, sustainable development programs, and championing advocacy for our beneficiaries worldwide.

  • As HR Officer, the successful candidate will support effective frontline service delivery within the UK People Services and, when requested, support our global and country offices as directed by the People and Culture Manager and/or Director.
  • The HR Officer will monitor adherence to organizational policies, such as timekeeping, using the People CRM system to compile lateness reports to identify issues and improve HA’s performance and efficiency.
  • The HR Officer will maintain up-to-date records, including pre-employment screening, referencing, and employment contracts, on the in-house People system and personnel files to meet audit requirements for CHS and Investors in People.
  • The HR Officer will oversee the administration of HA’s monthly payroll and pension contributions, ensuring all staff are paid correctly and on time.
  • The HR Officer will support the P&C team with relevant administrative tasks and contribute to the development and implementation of projects to ensure the delivery of the P&C strategy and the growth of the P&C function globally in line with HA’s objectives.

Key duties and responsibilities of the HR Officer:

  • Complete assigned projects promptly, adhering to best practices, HA values, health and safety, legislation, and compliance standards.
  • Maintain up-to-date records on the in-house PEOPLE system and personnel files to audit standards.
  • Oversee the administration of monthly payroll and pension contributions, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Monitor organizational performance and policy adherence by preparing reports on data such as lateness to identify and address issues.
  • Conduct pre-employment screening checks (e.g., Thomas Reuters) and references before hiring new staff.
  • Ensure all employment contracts are current and compliant with legislation.
  • Support the wider P&C department with administrative tasks.

What we’re looking for in a People and Culture Officer:

  • Essential: 1 or 2 years of experience in a similar role.
  • Essential: Excellent written and spoken English; additional languages are a plus.
  • Essential: Proficiency in Office software, especially Excel.
  • Desirable: Graduate qualification in HR and progress towards CIPD certification.
  • Desirable: Experience with project management tools.
  • Essential: Passion to make a difference.
