The main purpose of this full-time position will be to provide mental health treatment in the school setting to students enrolled in the School-Based Wellness Center program. This involves consultation with other Wellness Center providers, school personnel, and professionals in the community. The mental health counselor will also conduct assessments with student clients and their families to evaluate the nature and degree of needs, develop a treatment plan and provide ongoing therapy and / or referrals as deemed indicated by the assessment. Therapy may be individual, family or group and include case management. The mental health counselor will occasionally conduct therapy sessions via telehealth and / or home visits when schools are closed or if a student cannot be in school for some reason. In addition, the mental health counselor will keep accurate and timely documentation according to COMAR as well as provide data necessary for reports to funding sources.

Education : Determined by the Maryland State Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists under the requirements for Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC).

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. In accordance with Health Occupations Title 17 and Code of Maryland Regulations , candidates placed in this classification must be licensed by the Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists as a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC).

2. Candidates appointed to positions in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator\’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
