As Commercial Manager, and part of the senior leadership team, you will be responsible for managing all commercial aspects of the business. Based at our Head Office in Bolton, you will lead and influence a high performing team of quantity surveyors and commercial admin across all regions. Reporting to the Chief Commercial Officer, this role will focus on driving performance and ensuring project delivery aligns with expectations while working closely with internal and external stakeholders. Candidates should possess strong commercial skills, be customer-focused, and have good knowledge of the utility industry.
- Taking accountability for defining and delivering weekly and monthly cost/value reconciliation processes to ensure effective project management for value and margin.
- Leading and influencing a team of 12, promoting a culture of margin improvement and cash recovery, and streamlining processes.
- Identifying and mitigating commercial risks associated with projects.
- Liaising with design, finance, and operations departments to report and manage commercial performance.
- Building relationships within the senior leadership team to drive commercial improvements.
- Leading monthly operational meetings to review regional scheme performance and ensure appropriate actions are taken for underperformance.
- Enhancing processes around asset adoption, working closely with asset adopters across multi-utility services.
- Supporting working capital management, particularly WIP and client debt, in collaboration with finance.
- Managing stakeholder relationships with key clients and subcontractors from a commercial perspective.
- Experience in the Utilities Industry: Knowledge of gas, electricity, and water infrastructure sectors.
- Commercial Skills: Experience in Commercial Management and familiarity with Contract Terms.
- Contract Negotiation Skills: Ability to negotiate effectively with suppliers and clients.
- Financial Management Expertise: Strong skills in budgeting, cost control, cash flow, and cost value reconciliation.
- Project Management Skills: Proven experience managing projects from start to finish.
- Leadership and Team Management: Ability to lead and motivate a commercial team.
