Role Overview:

We are seeking a Sustainability Lead with a strong background in data centre relocation or upgrades to drive environmental and sustainability initiatives for mission-critical infrastructure projects. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in sustainability frameworks, carbon footprint reduction, energy efficiency, and environmental compliance within data centre environments. You will work closely with technical teams, facility managers, and stakeholders to ensure that sustainability best practices are embedded throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities:

Sustainability Strategy & Compliance

  • Develop and implement a sustainability roadmap for data centre relocation or upgrade projects.
  • Ensure adherence to global and local sustainability regulations (e.g., ISO 14001, LEED, BREEAM, EU Taxonomy, TCFD).
  • Conduct carbon footprint assessments and propose strategies for carbon neutrality and energy efficiency.
  • Drive compliance with ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) frameworks and corporate sustainability goals.

Data Centre Relocation/Upgrade Sustainability Initiatives

  • Identify energy-efficient solutions (e.g., liquid cooling, renewable energy integration, smart grid technologies) to optimise power usage effectiveness (PUE).
  • Work with IT and facility teams to minimise e-waste and promote circular economy principles in hardware decommissioning and disposal.
  • Assess water consumption and cooling efficiency to implement sustainable cooling strategies.
  • Engage with vendors and suppliers to ensure sustainable procurement of IT infrastructure and construction materials.

Stakeholder Engagement & Reporting

  • Collaborate with senior leadership, engineers, architects, and vendors to align sustainability objectives.
  • Develop KPIs and sustainability metrics for reporting on energy savings, emissions reductions, and overall environmental impact.
  • Prepare reports and presentations for internal and external stakeholders, including regulatory bodies and sustainability auditors.
  • Educate teams on green IT best practices and sustainable operations within data centre environments.

Key Requirements:

Essential Experience

  • Proven experience as a Sustainability Lead/Sustainability Manager in data centre relocation or upgrade projects.
  • Strong knowledge of data centre sustainability best practices, including energy efficiency, waste management, and renewable energy integration.
  • Familiarity with DCIM (Data Centre Infrastructure Management) tools and energy monitoring systems.
  • Experience working with ISO 50001 (Energy Management Systems), ISO 14001 (Environmental Management Systems), and ESG reporting frameworks.
  • Strong background in carbon footprint analysis, lifecycle assessment, and emissions reduction strategies.

Desirable Skills & Qualifications

  • Certifications such as LEED AP, BREEAM Assessor, CEM (Certified Energy Manager), or CDP (Carbon Disclosure Project) experience.
  • Experience with hyperscale, colocation, or enterprise data centre sustainability projects.
  • Familiarity with cloud sustainability strategies (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Green Initiatives).
  • Strong project management skills with experience in stakeholder engagement and regulatory compliance.
  • Experience in sustainable IT procurement and e-waste management.
