We are seeking a self-motivated and enthusiastic Project Manager to join our Development Engineering team. Reporting to the Development and Innovations manager, the right candidate will work in partnership with multiple stakeholders across the business, including Product Managers, Sales Managers, and Engineering Team Managers to manage projects from the point of inception to delivery into Production. You’ll also manage external stakeholders, working closely with suppliers and contractors. Projects can range from small incremental improvements on existing products to complete design and introduction of new products and technologies. There is a substantial element of prototyping and proof-of-concept machines or experiments that require an inquisitive and agile approach focused on the effective use of resources.

Main Responsibilities

  • Managing product development projects from initial project inception to operational deployment in line with business strategy and requirements.

  • Leadership of multi-disciplined teams to deliver innovative engineering solutions for laboratory and process equipment for regulated industries.

  • Ensuring that projects are managed within scope and budget against realistic time targets that are defined and agreed.

  • Managing team members as assigned in a matrix capacity in a participative management style to optimise performance.

Selecting and managing suppliers and sub-contractors as necessary in conjunction with the Functional Team Managers, ensuring they perform to the required standard.

  • Driving the creation of project deliverables from the Functional Teams and directing these to effective project milestones.

  • Analysing and identify project risks and develop mitigation strategies to eliminate or minimise risks of not meeting objectives.

  • Identifying and planning tasks and resources necessary to complete the product development.

  • Driving the project team to ensure tasks are completed to schedule and deliver the expected outcomes

  • Acting as the central focus point for liaison with Service, Manufacturing, Sales, Suppliers and Customers.

  • Ensure there is an appropriate communication plan in place for each project phase to ensure the necessary stakeholders are included and actions completed.

  • Advising the project sponsors of (technical & commercial) project risks and resource conflicts before commencement and throughout the duration of the project lifecycle.

  • Supporting the Project Management Supervisor with on-going continuous improvements to Project Management processes and tools to drive up Project Management capability within the business.

  • Promote a disciplined approach to project delivery using a suite of tools including formal Design and Gate Reviews, scheduling and time booking authorisation applications.

  • Identifying and communicating to the wider team the importance of commercial matters as they impact projects under your control.

  • To participate in creating technical specifications from user requirements. Provide monthly project reports for the senior management team. Participate in meetings with customers to support other stakeholders. Manage communications with customers for collaborative projects.

  • Qualified to degree level in electrical/electronic/robotic engineering or mechatronics

  • Qualified project manager with strong PM principles

  • Strong leadership skills in managing personnel in a matrix organisation

  • Problem solving & lateral thinking skills

  • Good verbal and written communication skills appropriate to a highly technical environment

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in an end-to-end Project manager role
