Robert Half Talent Solutions are seeking a highly technical Financial Controller for a prestigious organisation based in Pontypridd.

The Financial Controller will lead the controllership team of financial and other technical accounting roles across the Group. As a key process owner, it will be responsible for maintaining the financial control environment and for managing the financial health of the Group by ensuring integrity in the balance sheets and accountability in finance operating processes.

  • Lead the development and delivery of aligned accounting policies, procedures, estimates and judgements across the Group by providing advice to the Group Financial Controller, Finance Director and other senior leaders across the Finance and Governance directorate to ensure compliance with both International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) for the financial statements, and the Government Financial Reporting Manual (FreM) and Consolidated Budgeting Guidance (CBG) for the consolidation into the Welsh Government financial statements and budgets.
  • Support corporate reporting processes including periodic reporting to the board, Welsh Government and other funding bodies by working with the Finance Business Partnering team and the Group Financial Controller to provide robust, timely and insightful content.
  • Responsibility for maintaining corporate relationships with the Welsh Government including managing the funding agreements and remit letters by monthly formal meetings and communication means to ensure strong relationships with their main funder.
  • Contribute to discussions and advice to Welsh Government finance and non-finance colleagues regarding IFRS/FReM accounting interpretations and CBG budgetary treatments by producing briefings, informal communications and attending meetings to ensure expenditure, income and other accounting is in accord with accounting and budgeting guidance.

Who we\’re looking for

  • Qualified accountant with demonstrable experience of working at a senior level or similar role within a complex organisation.
  • Demonstrable experience of developing or applying financial and accounting policies / standards with a technical background and knowledge.
  • Knowledge and experience of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS)
  • Demonstrable experience of delivering consolidated financial statements
