Digital Communications Specialist
Windsor, UK
Want to work for a team with \’start-up\’ energy but corporate stability? Energised Futures – powered by Centrica, could be the place for you.
The new in-house research and innovation incubator was launched in summer 2024 to accelerate a new energy future, and catalyse Centrica\’s purpose of energising a greener, fairer future. Put simply: our small but mighty team of world-class researchers are learning and creating to speed up the energy transition.
We\’re a highly skilled team of researchers who perform cutting edge innovation, working closely with universities and other industry partners. The team is based in Antwerp and London, and is growing in scope, size, and impact, giving newcomers the chance to play a pivotal role in shaping the team and its processes, as it in turn shapes the roadmap for the wider organisation and industry.
The Communications team is focused on ensuring the right people know about Energised Futures and understand its purpose and power, by creating engaging content on owned channels (i.e. social media, website, internal comms etc.) as well as through securing coverage in earned channels (i.e. news media, social media, events, conferences etc.) This team is the interface between our research and key stakeholders, and is responsible for building the Energised Futures brand, seeking out new opportunities to grow its profile externally and internally.
Energised Futures is a new team, with limitless opportunity to make a meaningful difference through true collaboration and creativity.
Your role? Amplify the team\’s impact through strategic, creative communications and engagement with key audiences and stakeholders.
We\’re seeking someone with passion, drive and an entrepreneurial spirit who will chase new opportunities and deliver impactful work that accelerates the brand, the team and our mission. Experience in energy/research is a bonus, not a requirement. We are seeking someone with enthusiasm and a growth mindset and will be hiring for potential not necessarily experience. Sounds like you? Apply today.
Role overview
The Digital Communications Specialist oversees the digital and physical interface between Energised Futures and its audiences and stakeholders. You will own all digital channels (website, social media), creating captivating content to engage our key audiences, and lead on the logistics and management of key events including industry congresses, experiential activations, and internal events (both in person and virtual).
Job Outline
The Digital Communications Specialist will own all digital channels including:

  • The website: We have launched a new website. It\’s key this website is optimised for SEO so your role will be to continue developing SEO-optimised content to ensure we are reaching our existing and new audiences. This content includes written articles (blogs, project updates, press releases) as well as high-production video content (i.e. explainer videos filmed with our research team, project highlight videos summarising our exciting projects accelerating a new energy future). You will have access to the back-end of the website so will be responsible for updates and building new pages
  • Social media: We are currently building our social media strategy to identify channels to launch. Your role will be to launch these channels (depending on timings) or jump straight into content development and community management. You will be responsible for creating social media content calendars, creating and managing content development and upload, as well as paid media strategy to boost our content
  • Event management (external): You will be responsible for identifying and seeking industry events relevant for Energised Futures. You will make a recommendation on what involvement we should have (i.e. booth, speaking slot) and manage accordingly. As part of this you will seek out speaking and profiling opportunities for our research team, particularly Head of Energised Futures, Ben Krikler at relevant industry events (inc. conferences, congresses etc.)
  • Event management (internal): You will manage the agenda, logistics and execution of key internal events including the Energised Futures Collective (Centrica-wide event where colleagues attend to learn about Energised Futures\’ latest projects and engage in Q&A). The third Collective took place in March and we had almost 200 attendees. This is a key moment for Energised Futures and your role will be to build on previous success and keep it fresh and interesting to secure attendance and engagement. Additional ideas on internal events are encouraged and you can bring these to life together with the Communications & Community Lead
  • Earned media relations: To help boost awareness of the Energised Futures Brand (and boost SEO) you will also support in identifying and securing relevant earned media opportunities (i.e. podcast interviews, broadcast and print interviews) for Head of Energised Futures Ben Krikler and other team spokespeople. You will be pitching directly to journalists and producers to earn coverage with their media outlet, and briefing spokespeople ahead of interviews to ensure the coverage includes the brand\’s key messages and drives true impact.

Tools you could be using include: Brandwatch; Waas (website backend); Canva; Camtasia; Google Analytics.
Communications is a broad practice so your role is not limited to the above, this role is truly yours to make what you want it, supported by coaching and mentoring from the Communications & Community Lead.
About You

  • You will have previous experience in a PR / Communications role (either in-house, agency or both)
  • Strong written and verbal communication, with experience writing content for various mediums (i.e. press releases, website copy, social media posts, white papers) with a knack for storytelling
  • Event management, with experience planning the logistics and management of in-person and virtual events
  • You will have excellent project and time management, and be able to deliver work to deadline and brief
  • You will be a team-player, and be able to build good relationships with a variety of stakeholders
  • You will have a strong understanding of media relations, knowing what makes a story, how to pitch it, and who to pitch it to
  • You will have a strong understanding of social media, keeping up with the latest platforms and trends
  • You will be a creative thinker with a proactive approach to problem-solving
  • You will be a keen learner, and be able to grasp scientific concepts and translate this into engaging content tailored to different audiences (note: a degree or background in research and science is not required, however an interest and appetite to learn is).
  • Proficiency in PowerPoint, Word, Outlook required.
