How did Freelance Mum start?

Freelance Mum is child-friendly networking, for mums (and dads) in business. It was founded in 2014, after Faye Dicker discovered the challenge of juggling voiceover work around children. If child-friendly networking events didn’t exist for women in business, then she would just have to create them!

In the last 6 years Faye has been awarded Freelance Ambassador of the Year award with IPSE and Top 100 Most Inspirational Women in the West, for her work supporting the Freelance Mum community.

We have amazing network of support, who all have each others back, every step of the way.

Why online coffee mornings?

Since Covid-19 we have swiftly adapted and made our business networking events digital by introducing a weekly Wednesday coffee morning – The Mother of all Coffee Mornings via Zoom. These weekly events follow a relaxed format, to allow you to connect with other women business owners, catch up and ‘fill your cup’ at every meeting. If your children join the meeting too, that\’s ok!

What are freelance networking events?

Freelance networking events are gatherings of freelance professionals looking to make new business connections, share ideas, and learn from each other.

When she first set up the Freelance Mum podcast and blog in June 2013, broadcaster Faye Dicker had no idea where it would lead her. With a one-year-old baby in the mix, she simply had a desire to connect with other freelance parents and provide a platform to encourage and support them.

But she soon realised that wasn’t enough – she wanted to meet up with other freelance mums face-to-face as well as helping them tell their stories online. Her second daughter was just 11 weeks old when Faye led a group of 15 women and their little ones on a facilitated walk around Bristol’s Harbourside in July 2014. It was a huge success… and so Freelance Mum networking was born.

Freelance Mum has proved so popular in Bristol, hubs have now been launched across the UK. The \’real life netwalks\’ are complimented by weekly online coffee mornings, every Wednesday, which together provide an incredible community for mums in business.

Today Faye has been recognised for her work with Freelance Mum and been listed as one of 100 most influential women in the west in both 2018 and 2019. In 2018 she won Freelance Ambassador of the year award and Covid-19 Sucess Story, for her work launching the Freelance Mum hubs.

She still continues to champion the way for fellow mums in business. Not bad for a mum, on a mission, while bringing up little people.
