As a Site Service Specialist – Substation Control Systems reporting to the UK Services Leader, you will play a key role in delivering field service activities at Protection & Control integrators and customer sites. You will support service and maintenance contracts across onshore substations and offshore platforms, as well as contribute to validation and testing at factories or on-site for ongoing projects.
In this role, you will operate within defined parameters, making decisions and applying technical concepts to moderately complex issues. You’ll be expected to resolve problems through immediate actions or short-term planning, ensuring high-quality service delivery.
Job Description
Essential Responsibilities:
- Participate in maintenance contracts and commissioning activities for Substation Control Systems at onshore and offshore sites
- Perform first-line diagnostics and resolve system failures
- Provide technical support and instruction on system installation, calibration, operation, and maintenance
- Conduct Validation, FAT, and SAT of Protection and Substation Automation Systems, including upgrades and testing
- Support installation and commissioning of Substation Control Systems
- Assist with control system engineering tasks, including database configurations, firmware upgrades, and network setups
- Address and manage customer complaints following the company’s resolution process
- Ensure compliance with internal procedures, health & safety standards, and relevant certifications
- Provide training support for internal and external teams, both classroom and field-based
- Submit accurate weekly timesheets and monthly reports on all activities, maintaining field data reporting systems
Required Qualifications
- Experience in Substation Automation Systems, including technical support, testing, maintenance, and commissioning in transmission, distribution, industrial, and power plant environments, with substations ranging from 11kV to 400kV.
- Experience with Control systems (LV, MV & HV)
- Ability to understand electrical scheme design
- Knowledge of Networking, communication protocols, and OT Cybersecurity
- Ability to travel to customer sites locally and globally (~160 days/year)
- Valid driver’s license
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a customer-focused attitude and ability to collaborate across departments
Desired Requirements
- Advanced experience in Electrical Engineering, with knowledge equivalent to a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering
- Control systems commissioning experience with substations ranging from 11kV to 400kV
- Proven knowledge of GE protection relays, Substation Automation solutions, and SCADA/DCS systems
- Familiarity with DS Agile methodology
- Willingness to work extended hours and weekends
- Strong problem-solving skills, able to remain levelheaded under pressure
- Team-oriented with high self-motivation, flexibility, and a self-learning attitude
- Basic first aid skills & Offshore Certification (preferred but not essential)
