Permanent, up to 37 hours per week (pro‑rated for part‑time).

Salary

£27,694 per annum with opportunity to progress to £31,022 pa.

About the Team

Our Business Support Service is a centralised unit that delivers a consistent, high‑quality administrative service across the council. You will work alongside over 400 colleagues to support departments in delivering critical services to Hertfordshire residents.

About the Role

We provide support across a range of departments, including Children’s Services, Adult Care Services, Public Health, Hertfordshire Fire & Rescue Service, Legal Services and more. Depending on the team, duties may include data entry and analysis, meeting support, minute taking, telephone handling, invoice processing, and sensitive information management.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive administrative support to designated departments.

• Prepare agendas, notes, minutes and manage correspondence.

• Raise purchase orders, process invoices and support financial transactions where required.

• Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date database records.

• Deliver a high level of customer service to staff and the public.

• Support the needs of children and vulnerable adults where applicable, including DBS checks.

Essential Qualifications & Experience

  • Experience in an administrative or support role.
  • Excellent organisational and multitasking abilities.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and relevant software.
  • Team experience in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Understanding of specialised processes and methods.
  • Ability to plan work independently and work to tight deadlines.
  • GCSE (or equivalent) in numeracy and literacy.
  • Enthusiasm and pride in work.
  • Experience in minute or note taking.

Desirable Qualifications & Experience

  • Experience in coaching and training others.
  • Experience in processing invoices and handling financial transactions.

Additional Information

• This role requires a Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check.

• Driving and/or travel within Hertfordshire is required.

• A good command of spoken English is essential.
