About The Role
The Thames Water Shared Apprenticeship Scheme are looking for a Apprentice Health & Safety Technician. The role will mainly be based in Aldermaston but will require occasional travel to sites within the Thames Water patch.
Requirements
The role will be both office and site based providing advice to others on how to work without harming themselves or others. Technicians will work with management and delivery teams to advise on the statutory health, safety and environmental requirements as they affect the company’s operations. They will assist the management team in ensuring that legal and company SHE requirements are implemented. Duties include:
- Develop, review, and execute safe systems of work.
- Create and deliver training packages (e.g., toolbox talks & inductions)
- Investigate and report incidents in the workplace.
- Analyse data and present findings to the management team
- Undertake site visits to construction sites to check on site safety standards.
- Review and approve risk assessments and method statements.
- Enforce health and safety requirements.
- Identify hazards and implement solutions.
- Planning emergency procedures.
- Adhering to environmental and safety laws.
- Implement health and safety standards such as ISO 45001 etc.
Typical Working Week
40 hours p/w with start time typically between 07:00 & 08:00 inclusive of paid 8 hours at college.

- Proactive approach, taking pride in their work and taking accountability for decisions.
- A love of variety in a role and ability to adapt to a dynamic, fast-paced working environment
- Ability to quickly prioritise tasks and the initiative to dive head-first into problem solving
- No two days are the same on the front line and not every day goes to plan, so you’ll need to be quick on your feet to respond!
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills and enjoy working with multiple teams
- Ability to analyse and interpret information and effectively communicate this to different team members and audiences
- Ability to visit different sites and training days
- Curiosity to learn quickly in a reactive and dynamic working environment.
- Ability to work in all weather conditions to serve our customers and protect the environment
- Able to understand and follow health and safety protocols
Qualifications Required/desirable
Minimum Requirements
English and Maths at GCSE Grade 3 / D or above, or Functional Skills at Level 1 or above.
Desired Requirements
The passion and commitment to work in water treatment. It will be advantageous if you already have previous related work experience and a SHEA Card, but certainly not essential.
Key Training/College Information
K10 will enrol you to the Level 3 Safety, Health & Environment Technician course and fund your qualifications through an accredited training provider.
The apprenticeship duration is 24 months.

- Living in England for the last 3 years and have right to work status
- Not enrolled on any other courses
- 18+ due to site H&S rules
- Have a full UK Driving Licence and access to your own vehicle
