The role:
Workshop Technician or Mechanic
The Aircraft Workshop Services team are looking for dynamic proactive Workshop Technicians and Mechanics to work in either the Fleet Support Facility, or the Powerplant Support Facility, to assist the ever-changing business demands and to provide Engineering Support to the BA Operation, and ultimately our Customers. Your role would be to perform essential maintenance tasks including repairs and fabrication. You will also have the opportunity to support work on our aircraft in a hangar and ramp environment within Heathrow, and at our outstations for BA aircraft recovery tasks.
Technical expertise and experience
- Composite Repair – e.g. wet layer and/ or pre- preg methods
- Sheet Metal fabrication – e.g. bending, riveting, welding, heat treating etc
- General Fitting – e.g. component installation and removal
- General Workshop/Hand Skills – e.g. performing simple hand-mechanical tasks such as installing/removing Fasteners, drilling out sheered Fasteners, sanding, cleaning, greasing/lubricating, Painting(brush/roller) etc
The Fleet Support Facility (FSF) is a unique and bespoke workshop environment, where the team come together to fabricate inventive and complex repair solutions to maintain BA\’s aircraft to the highest standard. Are you up to the challenge?
If you are successful in the Powerplant Support Facility (PSF) you will be part of a team stripping and building engines to tight timelines and targets to support the British Airways Engine Repair and Overhaul Programme.
If you are successful in becoming a Workshop Technician or Mechanic you would be expected to perform work in a safe and secure manner, while delivering world class engineering solutions, for the operation. You need to possess good Hand Skills and be a confident engineer, a flexible team player, able to multitask, lead by example, to enable you to work within an established team within the Aircraft Workshop Services section.
PLEASE NOTE: there are multiple vacancies. Our current shift-based vacancies work on a 4-on / 4-off 12hr Day Shift rota. Some are positions are Mon-Fri core working hours (typically 7am-3pm).

What you\’ll do:
- Responsible for performing and certifying the Rectification of defects IAW Approved Maintenance Data
- Component Changes arising from Schedule Maintenance Inspections
- Perform Maintenance Tasks that fall within Scope of Workshop Authorisation
- Fluent in performing General Visual Inspections, Detailed Visual Inspections and other methods of Surveillance Inspection, Maintenance Checks and Tasks as defined within limitations of Approved Authorisation
- Will issue Certificate Release to Service
- Will develop and train and knowledge share and provide coaching
- Perform PC based documentary transactions as required and make full use of modern technologies/processes
What you\’ll bring to British Airways:
- Must have the ability to hold HAL authorised Airside Pass
- Must be competent in reading and interpreting Engineering data and other technical publications, to maximise use of work scope authorisation.
- Ability to write Engineering data e.g. job cards
- Proactively demonstrates sound safety culture
- UK Driving Licence (or equivalent)
- Self-motivated
- Good written & verbal communication skills
- Capable of working without supervision and as part of, or leading a team
- Technical Decision Making
- Demonstrates good airmanship
- Ability to Plan & Prioritise their workload.

- Civil or Military Aeronautical Level 2 Apprenticeship
- A recognised Engineering Level 3 Apprenticeship and Pt66 A Mod 6 & 7.
- Civil or Military Level 3 Aeronautical Certificate or Diploma
- Level 3 Engineering Certificate or Diploma and Pt66 A Mod 6 & 7.
- Experience working in an aircraft maintenance environment as appropriate to hold workshop authorisation
- Experience of working with SAP and Production support processes (desirable)
- Understanding of internal procedures and awareness of Quality, Health Safety, Human Factors and Environmental legislative requirements
- PC literate and good understanding of BA Engineering IT systems

- Hold a recognised NVQ Level 2 in an Engineering subject or equivalent
- Experience in composite repair/ sheet metal repair/ general fitting
- Able to demonstrate good hand skills
