Creative Assembly is seeking a Lead Animator to join our talented team for a new project, a sequel to Alien: Isolation. The role is based at our studio in Horsham, West Sussex, with options for hybrid or in-studio work. Remote working within the UK will be considered, with further details discussed during recruitment.
The Role
As the Lead Animator, you will oversee and motivate the animation team, collaborating closely with the Animation Director to maintain high animation standards. You will be responsible for delivering exceptional animations that enhance character quality and create engaging, immersive experiences in-game. This project is built in UE5, focusing on character animation within an iconic IP.
Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor the animation team, providing guidance, setting objectives, and conducting performance evaluations.
- Collaborate with the Animation Director to establish and uphold animation benchmarks ensuring consistent quality.
- Interpret high-level direction to plan and prioritize animation tasks, balancing quality with technical and deadline requirements.
- Work with related teams to develop and refine animations from block-out to final implementation, ensuring seamless integration and performance compliance.
- Review workflows, tools, and systems, identifying challenges and implementing solutions within the animation pipeline.
- Promote advancements in animation techniques to improve team capabilities and meet project needs.
- Coordinate with outsource partners to develop high-quality animation assets.
- Address daily requests for improvements and bug fixes.
Requirements
- Passion for games and game animation
- Strong communication skills for clear direction and mentorship
- Expertise in game animation using hand-key and motion capture techniques
- Proficiency in Maya and/or Motion Builder
- Technical knowledge of animation pipelines and game engine systems
- Problem-solving skills with proactive approach
- Experience working on AAA titles in similar roles
- Experience with Unreal Engine
- Knowledge of Motion Matching or similar locomotion systems
- Experience with facial animation, rigging, skinning, and motion capture
- Experience with outsourcing and co-development of animation
