Responsibilities
- Be responsible to the Duty Manager/Supervisor for the general observation of bathers to prevent dangerous or unacceptable behaviour.
- Control the behaviour of pool users in accordance with the Normal Operating Procedures (NOP) and Emergency Action Plan (EAP) and take appropriate action to deal with inappropriate behaviour.
- Ensure proper use of the pool, its facilities and equipment.
- Contribute to the development of the service through planning and other processes.
- Assist in the organisation and supervision of the programme of activities, users and equipment.
- Respond quickly and efficiently to problems and, when necessary, respond to emergencies and take appropriate lifesaving action in accordance with the EAP and the SES Health and Safety policy and procedures.
- Carry out cleaning duties throughout the premises as directed by the shift supervisor and ensure these are completed to the appropriate standards.
- Regularly inspect the changing rooms and other areas to maintain a clean and tidy state.
- Assist in the reception area as required, including answering calls, cash handling, and general administration duties.
- Attend mandatory staff training sessions to maintain NPLQ training hours as required by the NOP.
- Establish a professional relationship with pool users and handle complaints/queries without compromising safe supervision.
- Maintain a high standard of customer service at all times.
- Contribute to the smooth operation of the facility by informing the management team of circumstances or suggestions to improve service quality.
- National Pool Lifeguard Qualified (the qualification can be provided).
- Good understanding of swimming pool rules, first aid and health and safety; demonstrate the ability to follow safe operating procedures.
- Experience of working with adults, young people and disadvantaged members of the public.
- Understands the importance of equality and diversity and can apply it in the workplace.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills when dealing with colleagues and members of the public.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and perform lifeguarding duties to a high standard.
- Flexible attitude towards working arrangements with the ability to follow a shift pattern including evenings and weekends.
- Commitment to customer service.
