Job Description

Reports to: Director
Salary: £140 per day (6 hours per day, freelance contract)
Duration: Weekdays during October, February and May half-terms (as well as optional cover work and other opportunities as they arise)
Hours: 9:30-15:30
Location: Barnet, London

Springboard provides newly arrived refugee and asylum-seeking young people with a vital opportunity to make friends, acquire English language and life skills, and begin to rebuild their lives in the UK. By combining participatory learning, life skills and holistic support into action-packed half-term, summer and weekend programming, we bridge the gap in support for young people left behind by the mainstream school system – and set them up to thrive.

Job Requirements

You\’ll be qualified to teach English or have extensive experience working collaboratively with young people whose first language isn\’t English. You\’ll also have an understanding of how to engage young people in non-conventional ways, including using the arts, storytelling and dramatic arts as techniques for learning acquisition.

Along with the flexibility to improvise in unpredictable situations, you\’ll be enthusiastic about working collaboratively with newly arrived young people to help them reach their goals, and equipping them with the knowledge to advocate for their rights and the rights of others. You\’ll come with an up-to-date understanding of safeguarding and child protection matters, three great references and a clear DBS check.

If you can speak an additional language or two (Farsi, Arabic, Pashto, Amharic, Tigrinya, or others), that\’s a plus! We encourage applications from care leavers and/or those with forced migration backgrounds.

Job Responsibilities

As one of two Programme Facilitators, you will be responsible for delivering our bespoke half-term programmes directly to up to 20 young people at a time. You\’ll work in partnership with Peer Leaders and workshop providers to lead the group through the curriculum, helping them learn English and life skills through doing, problem solving and managing conflict.
