Overview
Virginia Oncology Associates, the largest group of medical professionals in Hampton Roads and Northeast North Carolina, is dedicated exclusively to cancer and blood disorder care. We are seeking a top LPN candidate to oversee the operation of a Multispecialty Infusion Clinic (MSI) for weekend infusions of monoclonal antibodies.
Successful candidates will onboard patient referrals via telehealth visits and provide incident-to coverage for Saturday and Sunday infusion appointments. Candidates must be able to manage infusion emergencies directly in the office. Top candidates should be willing to travel to various sites where appointments are offered throughout the month, as indicated below.
Responsibilities
- Provide general nursing care to patients.
- Administer prescribed medications and treatments according to nursing standards.
- Observe, record, and report patient conditions and reactions to drugs and treatments to physicians.
- Complete necessary paperwork, including FMLA, disability, Home Health/Hospice, and transfusion orders.
- Screen patients for appropriate information.
- Respond to and refer incoming telephone calls.
- Instruct patients and families regarding medications and treatments.
- Record patient data prior to each physician visit, such as vital signs, height, weight, allergies, and medication changes.
- Arrange transfusions and hospital admissions upon request.
- Ensure appropriate consent has been obtained prior to treatments or procedures.
- Prepare exam rooms, including restocking treatment areas.
- Handle prescriptions and other patient calls as required or directed by physicians.
- Arrange for pre-authorizations and pre-certifications of hospital admissions as needed.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; graduation from an accredited practical nursing program. BSN preferred.
- Minimum of two years\’ experience as a practical nurse, with skills in Central Line Care and IV procedures, in a hospital or clinic setting.
- Phlebotomy experience is preferred.
- Current LPN license and registration with the State Board of Practical Nursing in the practicing state.
- Current CPR certification.
- Willingness to travel between offices as needed.
Physical Demands: The physical demands include handling and lifting patients, manual dexterity, and eye-hand coordination. Ability to bend, stoop, twist, assist patients in mobility, and stand or walk for extended periods. Occasionally lift items up to 40 lbs. Vision and hearing must be within normal range.
Work Environment: Exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, radiation, and other conditions typical of an oncology/hematology clinic. Reasonable accommodations available for individuals with disabilities.
