The Senior Membership and Fundraising Manager is responsible for leading on the museum’s membership offer, as well as supporting the donor development journey through on-site donations and conversion to philanthropic giving streams. The principal aim of the role is to increase support for the museum’s programme of exhibitions and learning activities through membership, in-gallery giving and prospect identification.
Job scope
Working closely with the Membership Officer, supported by the Head of Philanthropy, the role will require the post holder to deliver a strong acquisition strategy, increase retention and oversee all aspects of the administration of the individual membership scheme, managing the CRM database, responding to members\’ enquiries, and processing memberships.

Strategy
- Develop a strategy for growth of the membership base in line with organisational targets, developing recruitment campaigns through direct marketing, email, and in-gallery promotion.
- Create and implement membership campaigns that deliver robust member acquisition and retention plans.
- Increase the membership retention rate and the number of members paying by Direct Debit.
Activation
- Ensure the effective delivery of the membership scheme including timely renewals and accurate communications, including monthly e-newsletters and an annual programme of relevant events.
- To manage the membership pages of the museum’s website, co-ordinating copy and making sure the pages are always relevant and up to date, making changes as necessary.
- Manage the development and delivery of an event programme for members.
Analysis and reporting
- Work with the IT team and Membership and Fundraising Officer to ensure the CRM database [Microsoft Dynamics] is configured to hold all relevant information on past, current, and potential members and donors and that this information is up to date, accurate, searchable, and capable of essential report writing.
- To maintain all member information in accordance with relevant Data Protection legislation.
- Analyse trends in membership and in-gallery giving through database reporting and competitor evaluation, using this to drive strategic decision making.
People management
- Line-management of the Membership and Fundraising Officer, providing them with direction and leadership to ensure the delivery of membership growth strategy.
Administration
- Manage membership income and expenditure budgets.
- Support the Membership Officer to handle all membership enquiries by email, telephone and in person.
- Manage the membership renewals process.
Person specification
Essential – Knowledge, Skills And Experience
- Demonstrable experience of implementing and managing membership schemes.
- Demonstrable evidence of a strategic, proactive, and creative approach to fundraising and development of individual membership schemes.
- Proven track record in achieving significant income targets.
- Experience of managing income and expenditure budgets.
- Excellent people management skills with the ability to lead, motivate and inspire others.
- Highly motivated, organised individual with a demonstrable record of working efficiently and on time.
- Knowledge of CRM systems.
- Numerate, with ability to prepare detailed financial analysis and reports.
- IT literate, to include intermediate knowledge of all Microsoft packages.
Salary: Up to ÂŁ40,120 per annum, dependent on experience
Holidays: 25 days per annum + Christmas eve (museum closed)
Hours: Full-time, 5 days/35 hours per week, with occasional weekend/evening working when required.
Location: Design Museum Kensington is the place of work, with a hybrid arrangement of 60% of an employee’s role to be performed at the museum and 40% remote.
