Ensure high standards of medical services for Academy players of all ages.

Assess and treat injuries/conditions of U18 and Development Squad players, in line with department philosophy. Schoolboy players to be assessed and treated as required. Discuss individual treatment and rehabilitation programmes with the Academy Chartered Physiotherapists and Club Doctors.

Liaise with external healthcare professionals as needed under the guidance of the Lead Academy Doctor and Lead Academy Performance Physio, assisting with onward referral for appropriate treatment if required.

Follow the ‘one club’ philosophy of the medical department; involve First Team medical staff in the management of Academy players and support First Team staff as required.

Contribute to the strategy of the medical department.

Be responsible, with the Lead Academy Doctor & Lead Academy Performance Physio, for emergency action plans and relevant health and safety processes.

Participate in screening processes including pre-scholar signings, preseason examinations, cardiac screening, and concussion baseline testing; assist in any subsequent investigations.

Be available out of hours to discuss injuries/conditions with the Academy Chartered Physiotherapists and the Club Doctor, providing advice as required. Maintain occasional contact with players out of hours.

Provide medical input on matchdays, primarily for the U18 squad, as required by the Lead Academy Doctor and Lead Academy Performance Physio.

Produce high-quality, up-to-date medical notes within 24 hours of assessment/treatment, logged onto the club’s database, in line with GMC guidelines. Ensure all medical records and injury data are accurately recorded for audit purposes.

Maintain knowledge of the FA Doping programme and legislation; ensure the club fulfills all requirements under the FA Doping Programme.

Ensure appropriate relationships with children and vulnerable adults, with suitable language, behaviors, and demeanor.

Monitor cleanliness of workplaces and equipment; liaise with relevant staff to improve or develop facilities; be responsible for medical equipment used.

Maintain own CPD by staying updated with trends in sports injury and performance sectors, incorporating new knowledge into work, and keeping written evidence in an up-to-date CPD portfolio. Attend mandatory training and incorporate learnings into practice.

Contribute to the medical department’s in-service training program.

Attend Child Protection training and work in accordance with national guidelines.

Act in accordance with GMC Rules of Professional Conduct and Standards of Practice.

Cover for First Team training and matches as directed by the Lead Academy Doctor. Participate in the appraisal process.

Comply with all company policies, procedures, health, safety, and security regulations.

Develop a sound working knowledge of safeguarding children’s regulations, including legislation and governing body rules.

Perform any other duties that arise within the scope of this position.

About The Candidate

Qualifications

  • Postgraduate qualification in sport and exercise medicine or related field (desirable)
  • Current GMC membership
  • Up-to-date FA Level 5 ATMMiF qualification
  • FA Safeguarding Children certification

Skills, Knowledge & Experience

  • Able to assess injury
  • Interest in paediatrics
  • Previous experience working with elite youth athletes and treating sporting injuries
  • Good understanding of growth & maturation and its implications on athlete development
  • Experience working in a team environment
  • Proficiency in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong numeracy and literacy skills
  • Professional ‘can-do’ attitude with strong organizational and administrative skills
  • Genuine team player
