The patent and trade mark attorney sector is unusual.

In some ways, the firms are like law firms. They provide legal advice and services to their clients. They’re also usually partnerships with practice groups of trainees, associates and partners working alongside expert colleagues in business support teams.

But they’re also different. They are focused solely on patents and trade marks, and so their clients are drawn from the world’s most innovative technology companies and brand owners. Being specialists, the top firms in this sector are much smaller than the leading law firms; but they’re nevertheless highly profitable. And the attorneys who work in them aren’t solicitors. Instead, many are scientists or engineers.

The team

Our People and Culture (P&C) team has gone through a period of growth over the last 12 months which means this is a fantastic opportunity for a driven and forward-thinking HR professional to join a supportive, progressive and agile and ambitious team. We are proud of the fantastic work our P&C team is doing to support the firm and we want to continue being at the forefront of new initiatives – just as our patent and trade mark attorneys are!

The opportunity

This is a 12 month fixed term contract covering a period of maternity leave and this Manager or Senior Manager level role will be reporting into the Director of People and Culture, and will support the delivery and execution of the P&C strategy.

In collaboration with our Senior Talent Acquisition Manager, and supported by two HRBP’s and a People and Culture Coordinator, this role is responsible for providing a consistent approach to people, across Kilburn & Strode. This role will be an excellent balance of advising our Partners through the day-today talent management and employee life cycle processes, as well as supporting the P&C Director with more strategic initiatives such as overseeing the employee engagement strategy and being one of the first organisations in our sector to release our Gender Pay Gap Report.

We are happy to consider applications for this role on either a full time or part time basis.

  • Leading on any complex employee relations matters from start to finish without supervision to ensure the best outcome for the employee and our stakeholders
  • Driving our Reward and Benefits strategy and annual compensation reviews
  • Oversight of, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements such as whistle blowing policy, Modern Slavery policy
  • Being a driving force behind our strategy and ensuring there is a culture of open communication and inclusion, with a focus on employee well-being
  • Living our firm values; be curious, think commercially, act collaboratively, take ownership and make a positive impact.

  • A track record in Human Resources within a People and Culture setting and a solid knowledge of HR processes, policy and procedures within fast paced organisation. Knowledge and experience advising teams on an international basis would also be beneficial.
