The Senior Production Manager is a senior role, responsible for overseeing the end-to-end delivery of complex TV news productions. This includes managing logistics, compliance, budgeting, and team resources across multiple projects. Acting as a central bridge between editorial, technical, and operational departments, the Senior Production Manager ensures seamless coordination and execution of content production, both in the UK and internationally.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Oversight & Project Management

  • Lead and manage multiple, concurrent productions from pre-production through to post and final delivery
  • Oversee complex location shoots, live studio broadcasts, and international filming operations
  • Ensure all projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest editorial and technical standards
  • Act as a key liaison between production, editorial, legal, finance, and post-production teams
  • Draft and issue contracts for independent suppliers and freelancers?
  • Manage the production desk, including production coordinators, assistants, and freelance staff, ensuring efficient workflows and appropriate delegation of workload and tasks
  • Assess and allocate team resources across projects to meet production demands efficiently
  • Mentor junior team members and foster a collaborative, solutions-focused working environment

Logistics & Operational Planning

  • Oversee the transport and accommodation for crew and talent on location, both in the UK and overseas
  • Create call sheets, movement orders, and detailed production schedules
  • Apply for filming permits and manage international logistics including carnets, visas, and inoculations

Compliance & Risk Management

  • Create and maintain Risk Assessments for all shoots
  • Submit Albert Carbon Footprint applications and manage certification processes
  • Ensure GDPR-compliant handling and closedown of production data
  • Ensure signature of release forms by contributors and locations
  • Understand and implement clearance requirements in line with broadcaster contracts
  • Book post-production facilities and liaise with editors and post teams
  • Obtain licences for commercial and library music, and source stills for use in production
  • Complete post-production paperwork for UK broadcasters using Silvermouse and Q
  • Oversee the Reconciliation of petty cash floats
  • Support cost tracking and invoice coding for authorisation
  • Collaborate with finance teams to ensure accurate reporting and budget reconciliation

Key Requirements:

  • Proven experience in senior production management within TV news or factual programming
  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with experience overseeing cross-functional teams
  • Excellent organisational and multitasking abilities, with a track record of managing complex projects
  • Deep understanding of live studio production workflows and international filming logistics including visas, rights to travel, filming permits etc.
  • Familiarity with broadcaster delivery portals including Silvermouse, Q, and international equivalents
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across departments
  • A strong understanding of production budgeting and cost tracking
  • Proactive, adaptable, and solutions-oriented approach to problem-solving
