The role

As a Integrity Engineer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. We have an opportunity for an engineer to join our growing Weld Integrity team at Babcock. The Weld Integrity team sits within the Welding Design Department. Babcock support the repair and maintenance activities on the Royal Navy’s Warships and Submarines at Devonport Royal Dockyard. In joining our team, you will work alongside the Design Authority, Non-Destructive Testing and Welding Engineering Team to provide technical analysis of vital assets and support there continued service.

Day-to-day, you’ll help to conduct integrity assessments, predominantly Engineering Critical Analysis (ECA) on vital RN assets and dockyard infrastructure.

  • Fracture and fatigue analysis / ECA in accordance with BS7910 or API 579.
  • Pipe Stress Analysis (PSA) and Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
  • Weld design strength check to EuroCode 3.
  • Authoring technical reports to provide technical justification to support production activities.
  • Other activities you may be involved in include specification of material testing (fracture toughness), wall thinning assessment (corrosion/erosion), fatigue modelling and specification of fatigue testing for non-standard joint types.

This role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with one day in the office/onsite and four days working from home.

Essential experience of the Integrity Engineer

  • Strong understanding of metallic materials and their failure mechanisms.
  • Must have managerial experience within the Nuclear or other high-hazardous industries
  • Be eligible/capable of achieving ‘Security Check’ (SC) clearance and NNPPI.

Qualifications for the Integrity Engineer

  • BEng or Meng/MSc in a relevant discipline (e.g. Materials Engineering or Mechanical Engineering).

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintainBaseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS)security clearance for this role.
