About The Role

In this role, you will manage and ensure our project is set up and delivered successfully in terms of environmental sustainability (ES). You will be working with the client, design and pre-construction teams as well as external stakeholders to ensure ES
constructability is considered early, planned for and costed appropriately prior to construction.
The role will also manage and ensure the project complies with all environmental legislation, consents, objectives, targets and other environmental commitments, including those arising from planning requirements throughout its
construction.
You will also support upcoming work winning activities to ensure environmental compliance and sustainability are effectively considered and costed
What you\’ll be doing
- Promote a positive environmental culture through proactive engagement and communications with project teams, supply chain, client and statutory bodies
- Maintaining and updating plans and procedures including the EMP during the works; Approval of relevant documents (CEMP, method statements) in consultation with National Highways Project Manager and the appropriate statutory bodies;
- Appoint, train and monitor performance of Environmental Advisors / Assistants, Ecological Clerk of Works, Environmental Management Representatives (EMRs) and Sustainability Co-ordinators
- Act as a point of contact between the regulatory authorities (Environment Agency, Natural England, Heritage England, Local Authorities) and other third party consultees) and the project on-site based issues;
- Coordinate and undertake regular Site inspections with the construction teams to monitor compliance with the environmental licences/consents for the works and environmental plans and procedures; implement follow-up corrective actions to ensure compliance with UK regulations and legislation;
- Investigate environmental incidents and near miss events in accordance with Balfour Beatty standards to identify and share lessons learned.
- Keep record of all activities on Site, environmental problems identified, transgressions noted and a schedule of all tasks undertaken; and provide appropriate professional and practical advice to contractors, consultants and project team members associated with environmental and ecological issues
- Undertake Risk Assessment and Work Package Plan reviews to ensure that these documents are suitable and sufficient for the tasks to be undertaken and comply with the minimum company requirements. Applies to direct and subcontract works.
Who we\’re looking for
- Environmental Degree or related discipline (preferred) or NEBOSH Environmental Diploma or IEMA Certificate
- Chartered Environmentalist (preferred)
- Relevant CSCS Card
- Valid driving licence
- Strong understanding of environmental management in a construction environment
- Investigation (root cause analysis) techniques for incident investigation
- Takes ownership and accountability for tasks and sees through to successful completion
- Understanding and knowledge of confidentiality requirements of role
- Experience in managing others who provide administrative support within Environmental Sustainability department
- Experience of chairing meetings, both with the workforce and supply chain
- Strong and effective communication skills to deliver key safety messages
