Cundall’s Ground Engineering team are an award-winning source of expertise and offer a pro-active and collaborative approach to skill development, and professional excellence.

We pride ourselves on our exemplary track record of providing innovative and sustainable ground engineering solutions, focussed on ensuring the best possible construction design advice that improves and protects the environment in which we live, while providing the facilities for day-to-day life.

The Role

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Geoenvironmental Engineer, Senior Geoenvironmental Engineer or an Engineering Geologist with an environmental focus, to work on the design of some of the most exciting construction projects in the UK and worldwide. Working closely with colleagues across our multi-disciplinary practice (in particular, our Civil Structural and Critical Systems teams), you will provide specialist consultancy input on projects across all sectors including Education, Healthcare, Critical Systems, Industrial, Residential, Workplace and Retail.

In this wide-ranging role, you will undertake detailed geoenvironmental analysis, lead site investigation and risk assessments (including Phase I and II land quality risk assessments and environmental due diligence), and undertake remediation design and verification.

The Skills

Holding a BSc degree (or equivalent) in geology, engineering geology, earth sciences, geochemistry or environmental science, you have at least 5 years’ professional experience in a broad range of engineering geology and geoenvironmental engineering work including Phase I and Phase II assessments, waste classification, remediation method statements/strategies, remediation supervision and remediation verification. You have also carried out Detailed Quantitative Risk Assessment (DQRA) for Human Health, Controlled Waters, and/or Ground Gas & Vapour and have extensive experience of scoping, conducting and interpreting site investigations for a wide variety of schemes including for large / tall buildings in complex urban environments and for masterplanning. Ideally, you will be chartered or working towards chartership with a relevant accredited industry body.

To succeed in this role you will be able to show a broad understanding of engineering geology and contaminated land issues, and bring proven working knowledge of BS 5930/Eurocode 7, BS10175, CIRIA 552, 665, 733 & 758, BS8485, BRE-SD1, LCRM and WM3. You will demonstrate the ability to produce detailed, robust and defensible ground models and conceptual site models. Experience of undertaking Tier 1 and Tier 2 qualitative and semi-quantitative contaminated land risk assessment is also essential.

You will be able to demonstrate your ability to manage and develop more junior members of the team and relate to more senior ground engineering staff and other Cundall engineering disciplines in a supportive and collaborative manner.

Some basic geotechnical knowledge (i.e. assessment of appropriate bearing capacity, settlement analysis, working knowledge of earthworks etc.) and an education to MSc would be advantageous.

Given the collaborative and client focussed nature of this role, excellent communication skills and experience of using your initiative and negotiating skills to overcome challenges are essential.

We know that to be the best at what we do we need a diverse workforce underpinned by an inclusive culture. Creating environments where everyone can find joy doing their best work is also great for everyone. That’s why we positively welcome applications from people of all backgrounds and identities, and encourage, support, and celebrate the diverse voices of our people.
