Clinical Psychologist

We are keen to hear from qualified psychologists who are interested in working with children and young people with mental health problems, those who have experienced trauma and other adverse childhood experiences, including looked‑after children. Ideally you will be confident to work independently as a clinical psychologist under supervision of a consultant clinical psychologist and within a multidisciplinary team that includes psychiatry, OT, nursing and teachers. You will be able to supervise, train and oversee the work of others to improve psychologically informed practices within the home.

Main duties of the job

• Provide a range of psychological interventions for children and young people using the latest evidence‑based practices.
• Supervise assistant psychologists and psychology graduates (therapeutic practitioners) to provide psychological interventions.
• Be responsible for assessments (including risk assessments), formulation and recommendations for psychological support.

The Cambian Group, the UK’s largest provider of specialist services in education, mental health rehabilitation and learning disabilities, is looking for a dedicated, caring individual to join the company as a psychologist. Cambian Meeko House is a 12‑bed children’s residential home catering for 12–18‑year‑olds with ongoing mental health needs and challenging behaviours that may prevent them from functioning within the community without continued support. There is a school (Home Tree School) on site to support the educational needs of the young people.

Job responsibilities

• Formulation and delivery of care plans involving psychological treatment and management of cases.
• Training and guidance of support staff to provide psychologically informed practices across the home.
• Implement a range of evidence‑based psychological interventions, making evaluations and decisions about treatment options and monitoring outcomes to ensure effectiveness for your own caseload.
• Support and supervise assistant psychologists and other practitioners in the team.
• Provide clinical assessments and interventions in line with Cambian policies and procedures, maintaining adherence to NICE guidelines and best practice clinical standards.
• Participate in CMAP meetings, multi‑disciplinary meetings and other professional reviews.
• Maintain accurate records of clinical input and participate in service development initiatives.
• Attend and contribute to regular clinical supervision.

Candidate profile

• Post‑graduate doctoral qualification in clinical or counselling psychology (or equivalent) and HCPC registration.
• Working knowledge of child and adult safeguarding legislation.
• Experience/knowledge of routine clinical outcomes monitoring and clinical risk assessment.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Competent computer and IT skills, strong literacy and report‑writing skills with excellent accuracy and attention to detail.
• Experience of managing complex caseloads and applying a range of interventions.
• Experience of delivering specialist assessments in autism, ADHD, intellectual disabilities, complex needs and/or challenging behaviours.
• Knowledge of developmental trauma and supporting families with children who are looked‑after or adopted.
