Senior / Principal Hydraulic Modeller – Waste Water
((BST: 8:00 – 18:00 (Mon/Thurs) 8:00 – 16:00 (Fri)))
Access Talent Group are currently recruiting for a Senior or Principal Lead Hydraulic Modeller within the Waste Water sector either based in Cardiff, Bristol or Birmingham.
This consultants have a long track record in the UK water industry working with all the major water companies and the Environment Agency. In the current round of procurement for the AMP8 frameworks they have recently secured major framework commissions with 3 major frameworks across the UK and are continuing to Bid for more.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior or Principal Wastewater Hydraulic Modeller to join a multi-disciplinary technical delivery team working on a diverse range of projects.
This role involves leading catchment-scale wastewater modelling and design projects, including investments to improve rivers and coastal waters through WINEP/NEP and storm overflow enhancements. You will play a key leadership role in a global modelling centre of excellence, mentoring junior team members while also contributing to the development of overseas teams.
With a strong pipeline of projects secured for AMP8, this is an opportunity to be involved in the entire design process, from strategic planning and feasibility to detailed design and construction support. A focus on sustainability and nature-based solutions is at the heart of the work, ensuring long-term benefits for communities and the environment.
Responsibilities
- Lead Wastewater Network Modelling Projects – Manage projects using 1D hydraulic models for risk analysis and solutions to improve water quality and reduce flood risk, with a particular focus on storm overflows and wastewater treatment works.
- Mentor and Develop Teams – Support and guide junior modellers while also contributing to the development of global modelling teams.
- Deliver Holistic Catchment Solutions – Work closely with multidisciplinary teams to develop sustainable, nature-based solutions for wastewater management.
- Develop Digital Tools and Innovations – Enhance, optimise, and automate modelling processes using digital tools.
- Client Engagement and Relationship Building – Collaborate with client teams across Operations, Asset Management, Environmental, and Modelling disciplines, fostering long-term partnerships.
- Contribute to Research and Industry Innovation – Lead and support research initiatives to drive technical excellence and develop industry guidance.
- International Project Opportunities – Contribute to global water projects across regions such as Manila, India, Australia, and North & South America.
Key Skills & Experience:
- Expertise in Hydraulic Modelling – Strong experience with InfoWorks ICM, ideally including Level 1 UPM water quality modelling.
- Relevant Degree & Professional Accreditation – A degree (or equivalent) in Engineering, Geography, Environmental Science, or a related discipline, and Chartered status with an appropriate institution.
- Proven UK Water Industry Experience – A track record of successfully delivering wastewater projects in collaboration with private/public sector clients and regulators.
- Strong Client Management & Communication Skills – Ability to engage with stakeholders, present results, and work collaboratively to develop effective solutions.
- Digital Innovation – Interest in using digital tools to enhance modelling processes and improve efficiency.
- Leadership & Mentorship – Experience managing or mentoring teams, supporting their professional development.
