The first American Formula 1 team to compete in the sport since 1986, MoneyGram Haas F1 Team made an immediate impression with a memorable points-scoring debut at the 2016 Australian Grand Prix. General Summary
This position reports to the Team Leader – Tyre Science or their designee; is located in Banbury, UK. The position involves the design, development and application of advanced simulation tools, with a strong focus on tyre performance analysis using track data. This role may require providing support from the factory during race weekends and attending numerous trackside races and tests.
General Responsibilities
Promote teamwork and effective communications to develop working relationships between all personnel and departments.
Follow all safety regulations in all venues.
Assumes any responsibilities and duties delegated by the Team Leader – Tyre Science or their designee.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and mentor junior and intern engineers in their contribution to team activities.
- Support the Design Office and other departments in the design of cars and tools through simulations and data driven approaches.
- Design, development, and correlation of tools aimed at analyzing tyre performance on track. Occasionally, data analysis could also focus on data coming from rigs and simulation tools (i.e. lap sim, DIL, HIL, etc).
- Support Electronics and Control Systems departments in detecting and reporting sensors malfunctions. Propose solutions and/or support the investigation using a data driven approach.
- Contribute strongly to pre-and post-event simulations and reporting to support Race Engineering in event preparation, with a focus on improving tyre performance and the tools involved.
- Support race and test event throughout the entire weekend by following the sessions live from the factory or at the track.
- Work closely with Race Engineering by providing tyre performance analysis reports and responding to specific focus points when requested at the end of each session.
- Propose and contribute to tyre testing activities, during all trackside testing opportunities and report findings with a data driven approach.
- Assist in project management by defining objectives, test plans, data post-processing, analysis and reporting.
Education And Work Experience
- Minimum BSc in any STEM subject, with robust knowledge and experience in applied mathematics or engineering. A Master’s degree or PhD is preferred.
- At least five years of experience, in either motor racing or in a Vehicle Dynamics or Performance role within mainstream automotive engineering is strongly preferred.
- Prior experience in Formula One would be beneficial
Specialized Knowledge And Skills
- Strong communication skills, written and verbal.
- Have an advanced understanding of tyre performance KPI and engineering.
- Comprehensive knowledge of all onboard sensors and instrumentation generally used to monitor tyre performance and operating conditions.
- Strong technical background in racing cars.
- A basic knowledge of tyre modelling.
- Work to a consistently high standard in stressful and time sensitive situations.
- Quick decision-making skills whilst working through problems in a scientific and analytical way.
- Work well within a team environment with personnel at all levels.
- A sympathetic approach to your work colleagues and an ability to integrate within a group environment.

Equipment And Applications
- Solid experience and knowledge of MATLAB & Simulink.
- Good experience with object-oriented coding (MATLAB or preferably in C# or C++).
- Experience with any symbolic and acausal modelling language (such as Modelica, SimScape or other multi-body/physical modelling software tools) would be favorable.
- Experience with MAT products for application management in a vTAG environment, such as System Monitor and GDE libraries, would be favorable.
- Solid computer knowledge, proficient with Microsoft Office.
Work Environment Physical Demands
An ability to work and prioritize within a high pressure, time sensitive environment while retaining a methodical approach is essential. The role may require extensive domestic and international travel and a willingness to work long and flexible hours including weekends.
This position may require lifting to 50 pounds, repeated bending, squatting and manual dexterity. Fast-paced work environment requiring heavy mental demands. Work environment includes machinery, race cars, 7-post and other rigs, grinding debris, and hazardous fluids. All employees must ensure compliance with the Company Health and Safety Policy, and all relevant other statutory Health and Safety legislation.
