First Marine Solutions (FMS) are a service provider to the local and international renewables and oil & gas sectors specialising in the engineering, design, procurement, installation, and maintenance of mooring systems for floating platforms. FMS also specialise in the planning and undertaking of marine activities related to floating platforms such as towage, vessel loadouts, marine assurance, and assisting with location planning and consent.

The Role:
Due to continued business growth, we are seeking an experienced Surveyor / Senior Surveyor to join our team on a full-time permanent basis to attend offshore operations as required.
The primary functions of this position are provide technical support to the company\’s permanent vessels and survey equipment including data acquisition and data processing systems for field operations. Responsible for ensuring acquired survey data is of acceptable quality.
This role is an offshore role.

The Department:
The Survey & Positioning department provides a bespoke service to our clients. Utilising the very best equipment the industry has to offer to provide faster access to data – safely, efficiently and on time. Some of the core services offered are; Vessel positioning, Remote operation support, Mooring pre-lay installation, Construction support, Geophysical survey, Laser scanning and Dimensional control and ROV inspection.
As an industry striving to reduce carbon footprint and minimise the number of personnel offshore, FMS Survey have heavily invested in Autonomous, Robotics and Remote solutions.
Your Day:
- Assist the offshore teams in the navigation and processing setup offshore.
- Trips offshore to undertake survey and positioning operations.
- Assist with the planning of offshore activities; ensure all parties are fully informed of mobilisation/planning arrangements.
- Providing feedback from the office with regards to any data quality issues that are evident.
- Liaise with senior management teams regarding software/hardware design, functionality and performance, in order to make improvements.
- Continually seek the identification of new working methods/practices and ways to improve project efficiencies and technology and software.
- Undertake specific projects as instructed by management.
- Assist with any other duties as and when required.
Qualifications / Experience:
Essential
- Have previous experience in a similar position, ideally with a qualification in surveying, hydrography, ocean science or closely-related subject is essential.
- Good understanding of rig positioning and geophysical survey principles.
Preferred
- Experience of working offshore in hydrographic, geophysical or construction survey.
- Commercial experience of delivering hydrographic survey data (i.e. multibeam, tides, backscatter, GNSS).
- Experience of industry-standard geophysical survey software (e.g. Edgetech, Kongsberg, Trimble, EIVA, Teledyne CARIS, Hypack).
- Experience operating or repairing survey equipment – multibeam ech sounder, single beam echo sounder, USBL systems, GNSS equipment, 2D and 3D seismic.
