About The Role
This role requires expert knowledge in Electrical Engineering, including Instrumentation, Control, and Automation (EICA) design, with a focus on the water/wastewater treatment industry. The EICA Design Lead Engineer should have extensive experience in developing EICA design solutions for municipal settings and support projects in the industrial sector.
The EICA Design Lead Engineer will provide design leadership, including mentorship of intermediate and junior designers and project engineers. They will work within our multi-disciplinary team alongside external consultants and supply chain partners to develop robust solutions.
The EICA Design Lead Engineer will be involved in solution selection, EICA design, application engineering, proposal support, and operational support. Experience across the entire project cycle, from concept and detailed design to commissioning and handover, is essential.
The EICA Design Lead Engineer will demonstrate a strong understanding of quality, safety, and commercial drivers, bringing innovative approaches to bespoke projects. Promoting electrical safety and encouraging awareness organization-wide will be key responsibilities.
The EICA Design Lead Engineer in the UK reports to the Design Manager UK. The role may involve supporting projects in Ireland, including internal reviews and occasional design input.
Location:
The role is hybrid, based at Coffey UK Head Office in Burntwood, Staffordshire, with options for remote work upon agreement. Travel to project sites and client meetings will be required.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supporting the Design Manager in delivering Coffey Group design works across the UK and Ireland.
- Performing preliminary and detailed EICA designs for water/wastewater treatment plants.
- Using software to develop advice, solutions, and achieve project objectives.
- Developing and standardizing design procedures to improve efficiency.
- Collaborating with external stakeholders, including consultants and contractors.
- Ensuring compliance with applicable standards for design and installation.
- Mentoring and guiding the EICA engineering team.
- Creating cable schedules, block diagrams, and single-line diagrams.
- Planning electrical layouts, including cable routing and ducting, using CAD or similar software.
- Developing motor, instrumentation, drive, and load schedules.
- Creating hardwired interlock schedules.
- Developing I/O, FDS, and Control Philosophies for water infrastructure.
- Contributing to functional design specifications.
- Testing MCC and control panels (FAT and SAT).
- Inspecting electrical installations.
- Assisting with commissioning procedures and project plans.
- Supporting commercial teams in developing CAPEX and OPEX models.
- Writing technical specifications and reports.
- Traveling to project sites as needed.
About You
Desirable Skills, Experience, and Qualifications:
- Bachelor\’s (Hons) Degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Over 10 years of EICA design experience in water/wastewater projects.
- Chartered status or working towards it is preferred.
- Membership in a relevant professional institution.
- Proven experience in delivering technical designs.
- Strong knowledge of electrical infrastructure, construction, and commissioning.
- Experience with MCC, SCADA, and PLC systems in water/wastewater.
- Knowledge of site power distribution, cabling, pumps, drives, and motorized plant.
- Excellent organizational and report-writing skills, familiar with electrical standards.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and CAD software.
- Ability to work independently and in teams.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Attention to detail and diligence.
- Valid UK/EU driving license.
