About the Job
An opportunity has become available for an Electrical Engineer to join the European Robotics Technology Centre (ERTC) at Hyster-Yale Materials Handling (HYMH). Hyster-Yale is a leading, globally integrated, full-line lift truck manufacturer offering a broad array of solutions aimed at meeting the specific materials handling needs of its customers, including attachments and hydrogen fuel cell-powered products, as well as a variety of other power options for its lift trucks, telematics, automation and fleet management services.

About the Role
- The Electrical Engineer will be tasked with taking design requirements and converting these into new, exciting, and innovative solutions.
- Working with Mechanical, Software and Test teams, the Electrical Engineer will ensure that solutions are functional, reliable, and durable for all foreseeable use cases as well as meeting all regulatory requirements for a global market.
- The Electrical Engineer will engage with Procurement, Quality and Manufacturing teams to develop designs that are optimised for our production facilities.
- The Electrical Engineer will also have the opportunity to interact with service and sales colleagues to build a deeper understanding of the global industrial truck markets and customer operations through customer visits and workshop sessions.
- We intend to develop the individual to become an automation specialist. The skillsets that are developed will be utilised throughout the HYMH engineering group, where the engineer will supervise, and support automation development carried out around the business.
- Travel between HYMH facilities in Europe and the USA will be a requirement, as well as travel to HYMH vendor, dealer and customer locations.
As an Electrical Engineer you will have several responsibilities that include
- Engaging with a global design team to understand solution requirements and develop the Design Validation Plans & Reports (DVP&R’s)
- Generating innovative solutions that fulfil functional, performance, cost and quality requirements using state-of-the-art design systems
- Managing the release of design packages to stakeholders within the business using company processes and procedures
- Supporting the testing of new automation solutions, both at component and truck levels, and reviewing the test reports to determine if solutions are fit for purpose
- Undertaking an in-house personal development plan to specialise in automation design
- Demonstrating initiative within HYMH and externally with suppliers to drive for project results
To be considered for the Electrical Engineer vacancy, you must understand product design and development methodologies, and have an ability to learn and use CAD systems, understand the principles of change management and document control, understand circuit diagrams and have an inquisitive mindset to explore and utilise new technologies.
Essential Skills and Knowledge
- Bachelor’s Degree in electrical engineering or electrical product development related topic
- 4-5 years’ experience in a design related role
- Good working knowledge of electrical CAD systems and electrical schematic drafting standards
- Sound understanding of engineering practices (e.g., drafting, electrical and electronics, engineering calculations, and engineering analysis including Design and Production FMEA’s)
- Knowledge of modern manufacturing technologies and techniques
- Hands-on building of electrical harnesses, systems, and sub-systems
- Experience in testing and fault-diagnostics of electrical systems and sub-systems using DVM’s, scopes and other laboratory equipment
- Mentor and lead entry level engineers
- Facilitate and lead design reviews
- Good communication and presentation skills
- Design and devise tests focused on system verification and validation to requirements
- Capability to analyse test results and feedback to design teams with proposals for improvement
Highly Desirable
- Knowledge of CANbus or other networked communications
- A basic understanding of mechanics and hydraulic systems and controls
- A basic knowledge (not expertise) of European machinery legislation (i.e., CE marking to the machinery directive) or similar industry regulations, and the associated standards process supporting them
Other Desirable Competencies and Experience (not essential)
- Basic EMC testing experience
- Software coding experience
- Analysis tools (MatLab or similar)
