The Finance business partner delivers financial and commercial support to key stakeholders driving optimal business decisions and delivering better financial and commercial performance.
Role specific :
- The Complex Engineering team lead on the delivery of Fibre First Rural build, Gigabit, LFFN, R100 and provide support to our other operational teams with expert opinion and advice around network policy and industry leading innovation. They also drive the completion of complex, difficult, or high priority network build and fix activities, as well as provide interal civils and poling capability.
- The role is within a team at the centre of the largest strategic investment in BT Group, that of delivering Full Fibre across the country, including Rural areas, working closely with the business to deliver innovative solutions to enable fibre deployment in often remote locations.
- This is a hugely exciting role, having direct influence working across multiple directors and their teams, supporting multiple capex programmes . This will enable the role holder to learn the dynamics of the business at the heart of the Group strategy, offering the opportunity to influence key business decisions and the experience of being part of one of the biggest infrastructure programmes in the UK while working as part of the wider Openreach Complex Engineering Finance Team.
- Safety is also a key part of the Openreach Strategy, and this role offers the holder a unique insight into supporting one of the key safety programmes: Asset Assurance/Pole replacement, as well as providing BP support to the poling direct labour team.
This role can be based in London, Birmingham or Bristol working three days a week in office and two days a week working from home.
What you’ll be doing
- Commercial and decision support: Commercial / financial support for business cases across multiple capex programmes within the Complex Engineering organisation. Influencing financial decisions for the team through sound financial and commercial insight.
- Communicating and stakeholder management: Communicating with the stakeholders in the operational teams delivering the build, along with other key stakeholders across wider teams, including safety programme, GB Ops and multiple capital programmes. Working with commercial, operational & transformation/innovation teams to understand and model the long term delivery plan and provide financial insight to decision making.
- Financial performance: Accountable for monthly reporting, outlook and MTP for multiple capex programmes. This includes a full range of financial accountabilities linking operational metrics (productivity, volume delivery) to financial performance.
- Accountable for the EBITDA management of the poling DL team.
- Highlighting risks & opportunities & driving actionable improvement plans.
- Providing supporting reporting & analysis to drive decision making and allow the programmes to best utilise & balance DL and sub-con capacity.

- Sponsors/guides the planning, facilitation and completion of FD sponsored finance programmes
- Leads, champions and manages conflicting priorities with ownership of successful delivery of key organisation-wide finance programmes
- Sets agendas, identifies opportunities and promotes the highest standards of best practice and provides insight on finance work area(s) or specialism
- Fully qualified accountant / Further qualification to support specialism with significant PQE
