Job Description
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Senior Oracle Database Administrator to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing and maintaining production database environments, resolving complex database issues, and ensuring optimal performance and security across all systems. This role requires strong technical expertise in Oracle databases, along with proficiency in other database technologies and cloud platforms.
Key Responsibilities:
Advanced Support & Escalation Handling
- Act as the escalation point for L1 database issues.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues related to performance, availability, storage, and security.
- Investigate and fix blocking sessions, memory leaks, corruption, fragmentation, and audit failures.
- Collaborate with application teams and vendors to resolve access control and replication issues.
Database Administration & Operations
- Perform installations, configurations, patching, and upgrades of Oracle databases.
- Manage and test backup and recovery strategies using RMAN.
- Execute and validate restores in test and production environments.
- Apply security patches, CPU/PSU updates, and ensure DB hardening and compliance.
Change & Release Management
- Review and execute complex change requests and deployment scripts.
- Manage modifications to DB jobs on both the database and associated servers.
- Plan and implement database migrations with minimal downtime.
Performance Tuning & Monitoring
- Conduct health checks and performance tuning using AWR/ASH, SQL plan analysis, and index optimization.
- Optimize memory configurations and tune queries.
- Configure and enhance monitoring tools such as Oracle Enterprise Manager and EMS.
Security & Access Management
- Enforce user account policies and manage database access controls.
- Configure Oracle wallet and encryption for data protection.
- Coordinate domain/local account management with identity teams.
Project & Documentation Support
- Participate in new application onboarding and environment handovers.
- Contribute to process automation and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Maintain detailed documentation including root cause analyses and standard procedures.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- 3–5 years of hands-on experience in Oracle Database Administration (preferably with Oracle 19c+)
- Strong understanding of Oracle architecture, ASM, RMAN, and Oracle Data Guard
- Skilled in SQL tuning, PL/SQL, and Unix/Linux shell scripting
- Experience with Oracle Enterprise Manager and other DB monitoring tools
- Familiarity with ITSM tools (e.g., ServiceNow) and change management processes
- Ability to work independently and troubleshoot critical issues with minimal supervision
- Willingness to participate in on-call support rotations
Preferred Skills:
- Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) – Oracle Database Administration
- Experience with other RDBMS platforms such as SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or MySQL in production environments
- Exposure to cloud database services (e.g., AWS RDS, Azure SQL)
- ITIL Foundation Certification
