Originally named, Great British Nuclear, Great British Energy – Nuclear is an arm’s length body of the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, dedicated to supporting the development and deployment of new nuclear technologies in Great Britain. We play a crucial role in advancing nuclear new build, ensuring the UK’s energy security and achieving net-zero carbon emissions. Great British Energy – Nuclear focuses on fostering innovation, facilitating investment, and coordinating efforts across the nuclear industry to build a resilient and sustainable energy future.
Great British Energy – Nuclear’s first step was to start the technology selection process for Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) in 2023. SMRs can potentially be quicker to deploy and less expensive to build than traditional nuclear power plants because they are smaller, have factory based modular manufacturing and more flexible deployment options. In June 2025, Great British Energy – Nuclear announced that Rolls-Royce SMR had been selected as the preferred bidder to build the UK’s first SMRs, following a technology selection process that began in 2023.

Position Overview
The Operational Demand Manager plays a crucial role in aligning supply and demand, providing an integrated view, to maximise efficient use of resource and timely development of capacity and capability. Additionally, the role ensures vertical alignment between the company\’s strategic and operational plans. The role focuses on changes from previously agreed plans, helping management understand past performance while driving future actions for anticipated results. The data produced enables the development of workforce skills and capacity planning within GBE-N.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the horizontal alignment of supply and demand through integration between company departments, suppliers, and customers.
- Ensure vertical alignment between the company’s strategic plan and operational execution.
- Conduct regular reviews of customer demand and supply resources to maintain balance and optimise operational efficiency.
- Drive the \”re-planning\” process across an agreed rolling horizon, adjusting strategies based on evolving business needs.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to analyse performance metrics and provide insights into company achievements and areas for improvement.
- Develop future-focused action plans to enhance operational performance and business outcomes.
- Utilise data-driven methodologies to evaluate trends and forecast industry demands.
- Act as a strategic advisor to executive leadership, presenting actionable insights for long-term business, skills and workforce planning.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Strong expertise in Demand and Operational Planning methodologies.
- Proven experience in supply chain management, demand forecasting, or production planning.
- Ability to collaborate cross-functionally with internal departments, suppliers, and customers.
- Excellent analytical skills with a focus on data-driven decision-making.
- Strong communication and leadership skills to drive organisational alignment.
- 5+ years of experience in a relevant industry or function.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification in APICS or related supply chain planning methodologies.
- Experience working with advanced analytics tools for demand forecasting.
- Expertise in stakeholder management and process optimisation.
- Proficiency in enterprise resource planning (ERP) and forecasting software.
- Experience of developing process and digital capacity planning capability across the enterprise.
